{"id":29792,"date":"2014-10-26T17:14:24","date_gmt":"2014-10-26T09:14:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=29792"},"modified":"2014-10-26T15:45:06","modified_gmt":"2014-10-26T07:45:06","slug":"british-comedian-russell-brand-criticizes-harpers-reacton-to-ottawa-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/10\/26\/british-comedian-russell-brand-criticizes-harpers-reacton-to-ottawa-shooting\/","title":{"rendered":"British comedian Russell Brand criticizes Harper\u2019s reacton to Ottawa shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ALEaAAU3KAE?list=PL5BY9veyhGt46KMmgAJYi1LF0EUkpqcrX\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>TORONTO\u2014A British celebrity isn\u2019t wowed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper\u2019s handling of the aftermath of the shooting of an honour guard at the National War Memorial.<\/p>\n<p>Harper\u2019s address to Canadians after Wednesday\u2019s deadly rampage that included a gunfight on Parliament Hill was the subject of \u201cThe Trews,\u201d comedian Russell Brand\u2019s YouTube series in which he dissects media coverage of current events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe incidents in Ottawa are being used to advance a narrative that will not only entitle them to further wars abroad, but will entitle them to inhibit our freedoms,\u201d Brand says in the Oct. 23 episode.<\/p>\n<p>He says Harper\u2019s repeated emphasis on terrorism and Islam are a subtle way of advancing a Conservative political agenda focused on increased military deployment.<\/p>\n<p>Brand, who has produced 174 episodes of \u201cThe Trews\u201d since it debuted this past February, has only recently become widely known for his political engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Brand went on to contrast the political reaction to Cpl.
