ALFRED FRIAS\/ PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 President Rodrigo Duterte has renewed his call to members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People\u2019s Army (CPP-NPA) to surrender, assuring them of government assistance if they decide to return to the fold of the law.<\/p>\n<p>In a meeting with members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) on Saturday night, Duterte said CPP-NPA leaders had no more \u201cideological set up in their minds\u201d, and nothing to fight for anymore.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSinasabi ko lang hinto na kayo. Mag<\/em>-surrender\u00a0<em>na kayo kasi walang ginawa \u2018yang mga lider ninyo<\/em>\u00a0(I\u2019m just saying, surrender because your leaders are not doing anything anymore). It\u2019s plain banditry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said communist rebels are no different from the terrorist organization Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) that carries out terrorist attacks like kidnappings and bombings.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPareho talaga kayo ng<\/em>\u00a0Abu Sayyaf. No different.\u00a0<em>Ako pa sa inyo mag-<\/em>merge\u00a0<em>na lang. Totoo iyan<\/em>\u00a0(You\u2019re just like Abu Sayyaf. No different. If I were you, I would merge with them. That\u2019s true)\u2026You want money to come to your hands through or by virtue of the blood and tears of other Filipinos.\u00a0<em>Sinisira ninyo ang bayan<\/em>\u00a0(You\u2019re destroying the nation),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said that while communist rebels extorted millions from big businesses and corporations, their leaders live lavish lifestyles and send their children to study overseas.<\/p>\n<p>He vowed that the government would provide all kinds of assistance to those who surrender, including housing, livelihood, and education for their children<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSumurender na kayo. Ako, \u2018pag nag<\/em>-surrender\u00a0<em>kayo, bahay. Mayroong mga<\/em>\u00a0condo\u00a0<em>na ginagawa ko sa probinsiya, \u2018pag nag<\/em>-surrender<em>\u00a0kayo sabi ko na sa sundalo &#8212; para kanila &#8216;yon eh &#8212; sabi ko, \u2018Bata, pasensiya ka na, ibigay na lang natin dito para madali ang<\/em>\u00a0pacification campaign (Just surrender. If you surrender, you\u2019ll get a house. There are condos being built in the provinces, if you surrender, since those are for them, I\u2019ll say, \u2018Apologies, but I\u2019ll give them to you to speed up the pacification campaign),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte also reiterated his promise to include them in the government\u2019s mass vaccination campaign once the vaccine for Covid-19 becomes available in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vaccine is available to every Filipino citizen, including the Communist NPAs so that you can fight better and you are healthy because I know that you will die,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that if they do not stop their attacks, the \u201cgospel truth\u201d is that they would definitely die.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not&#8230; In the name of humanity, we will not deny\u00a0<em>kasi ano &#8216;yan eh.
