The Canada\u00a0Border\u00a0Services\u00a0Agency\u00a0(CBSA) announced today that it is launching investigations to determine whether certain upholstered domestic seating from China and Vietnam is being sold at unfair prices in Canada.<\/p>\n

The investigations are the result of a complaint filed by Palliser Furniture Ltd.\u00a0(Winnipeg,\u00a0MB) and supported by Elran\u00a0Furniture\u00a0Ltd.\u00a0(Pointe-Clair,\u00a0QC), Jaymar Furniture Corp.\u00a0(Terrebonne,\u00a0QC), EQ3 Ltd.\u00a0(Winnipeg,\u00a0MB) and Fornirama\u00a0Inc.\u00a0(Montr\u00e9al,\u00a0QC). The complainant alleges that as a result of an increase of the volume of the dumped and subsidized imports from these countries, it has suffered material injury in the form of lost market share, lost sales, price undercutting, price depression, declining financial performance and reduced capacity utilization.<\/p>\n

The CBSA and the\u00a0Canadian\u00a0International\u00a0Trade\u00a0Tribunal<\/a>\u00a0(CITT) each play a role in the investigations. The CITT will begin a preliminary inquiry to determine whether the imports are harming the Canadian producers and will issue a decision by February\u00a019,\u00a02021. Concurrently, the CBSA will investigate whether the imports are being sold in Canada at unfair and\/or subsidized prices, and will make preliminary decisions by March\u00a022,\u00a02021.<\/p>\n

Currently, there are 125\u00a0special\u00a0import\u00a0measures in force, covering a wide variety of industrial and consumer products, from steel products to refined sugar. These measures have directly helped to protect the Canadian economy and jobs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
