(<a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/phredcross\/photos\/5238746652817368\">File Photo: Philippine Red Cross\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Malaca\u00f1ang on Thursday assured Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman, Senator Richard \u201cDick\u201d Gordon that the government will settle its remaining PHP623-million debt with the humanitarian organization.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the government, particularly the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), has proven its commitment to settle its remaining debt to the PRC in the past.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMagbabayad po ang<\/em>\u00a0national government.\u00a0<em>Napatunayan naman po ng<\/em>\u00a0national government\u00a0<em>na hindi po tumatalikod sa obligasyon ang<\/em>\u00a0national government (The national government will pay. The national government has already proved that they will not turn back on its obligation,\u201d he said in a press briefing in San Vicente, Palawan.<\/p>\n<p>Roque, however, said there would be a need to verify the total amount of debt based on the PhilHealth\u2019s \u201cthree-tiered payment scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNgayon po, nag-a-undergo pa rin po \u2018yan ng proseso ng<\/em>\u00a0verification at (Now, they\u2019re undergoing a process of verification and) ensuring that it is pursuant to the three-tiered payment structure,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Red Cross, last October, temporarily halted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) testing it was doing for the government due to the more than PHP1-billion debt incurred by PhilHealth.
