MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday night warned those who are allegedly trying to revive the Kuratong Baleleng gang to “shape up”, saying they do not stand a chance against government.<\/p>\n

\u201cKayong mga pulis, p**\u2026 May mga pulis diyan sa Zamboanga del Sur na nagtatayo ng parang\u00a0<\/em>reviving the\u00a0— itong gang ni \u2014 humahawak sa Ozamiz? Kuratong Baleleng. Mayroon diyan,<\/em>\u00a0I read\u00a0sa<\/em>\u00a0briefer\u00a0mo galing ata sa iyo iyan<\/em>\u00a0(There are police there in Zamboanga del Sur sort of reviving the Kuratong Baleleng)\u2026Better shape up,\u201d he said in a taped speech.<\/p>\n

Duterte said even if they tried to get rid of government forces, their efforts would go to waste.<\/p>\n

\u201cGusto mamatay nang maaga. Hindi niyo kaya ang gobyerno. Patayin mo man si<\/em>\u00a0[Interior Secretary Eduardo] A\u00f1o,\u00a0patayin mo ako, patayin mo si ano,<\/em>\u00a0[Defense Secretary Delfin] Lorenzana,\u00a0buhay pa rin ang Republika ng Pilipinas<\/em>\u00a0(You want to die early. You don\u2019t stand a chance against government. Even if you kill A\u00f1o, kill me, kill Lorenzana, the Republic of the Philippines will always be there),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the same speech, Duterte also named government officials dismissed for corruption including former or incumbent members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police and local officials.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have come to the part where I have to honor the \u2014 my commitment to the people to report the progress of our campaign against graft and corruption,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Based in Ozamiz, the Kuratong Baleleng is an organized crime syndicate involved in activities such as kidnapping, robberies, drug trafficking, and other crimes.<\/p>\n

The group spread to different parts of Mindanao and eventually reached parts of Cebu City and Metro Manila.<\/p>\n

Kuratong Baleleng allegedly sourced weapons from the military, and it grew in force supposedly under Octavio \u201cOngkoy\u201d Parojinog, Sr., who came from an influential Mindanao family.<\/p>\n

In 1988, the military disbanded Kuratong Baleleng, but its remnants continued with their lawless pursuits in Ozamiz.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
