Debold Sinas on Monday thanked President Rodrigo Duterte\u2019s trust and confidence at the same time happy and embarrassed after defending him anew over the ma\u00f1anita celebration.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAko po ay parang nahihiya na ako kay<\/em>\u00a0President<em>\u00a0lalong depensahan niya po ulit ako tungkol po doon sa\u00a0<\/em>ma\u00f1anita<em>.<\/em>\u00a0So I have mixed feelings.\u00a0<em>Natuwa ako pero<\/em>\u00a0at the same time\u00a0<em>nahihiya<\/em>\u00a0(I am also somewhat embarrassed that President defended me again on the ma\u00f1anita [issue]. So I have mixed feelings. I\u2019m happy but at the same time embarrassed),\u201d Sinas said during his first Monday\u2019s flag ceremony as PNP chief at Camp Crame.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Duterte cleared Sinas of violation of rules months after his highly-criticized ma\u00f1anita celebration where more than a dozen visitors attended despite the lockdown restrictions at that time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is my call. I take full responsibility, but I also guarantee his (Sinas\u2019) competence and expertise in police work,\u201d Duterte said in his recorded message, defending the police chief&#8217;s appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said it was not Sinas&#8217; fault that his colleagues decided to surprise him. For him, Sinas is as good as pardoned.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Pumunta lang &#8216;yong ibang sundalo kasi\u00a0<\/em>ma\u00f1anita<em>\u00a0nga, hindi naman alam ng pobre, alangan namang sigawan niya na umuwi, eh di harapin niya<\/em>\u00a0(His colleagues went because it is a ma\u00f1anita, the man did not know, it&#8217;s not as if he can turn them away)&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The President added that the criticisms hurled against Sinas are nothing compared to corruption.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Kung may kasalanan siya doon,<\/em>\u00a0pardon\u00a0<em>na siya. Wala along nakitang kasalanan na masama, na may<\/em>\u00a0moral implication,\u00a0<em>na may malisya<\/em>\u00a0(If he is indeed at fault, then he&#8217;s pardoned. I don&#8217;t see anything wrong, any moral implication, any malice),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sinas thanked Duterte for defending him over ma\u00f1anita issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to thank the President for the trust and confidence,\u201d Sinas said. \u201cI am very happy for the support of the President for me as his Chief PNP. Thank you very much Mr. President.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He assured the public that the police service will be more visible down to the police-community precinct level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRest assured of our best in police service.\u00a0<em>Sa lahat ng kapulisan dito sa<\/em>\u00a0Crame\u00a0<em>hanggang sa pinakamababa na<\/em>\u00a0substations\u00a0<em>at<\/em>\u00a0PCP,\u00a0<em>gawin po natin ang katungkulan natin para sa bayan<\/em>\u00a0(All the cops from here at Camp Crame down to the substations and police community precinct, let\u2019s do our duty for the nation),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte&#8217;s marching order to Sinas is to continue the government\u2019s campaign against illegal drugs and ensure that the country is a safe place to live in.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Sinas urged the public to move on from the ma\u00f1anita controversy.<\/p>\n<p>Sinas said there are a lot of things for him to do as the new head of the country&#8217;s police force for the next six months.<\/p>\n<p>The ma\u00f1anita was held for him inside Camp Bagong Diwa in May, when Metro Manila was still under an enhanced community quarantine where mass gatherings are prohibited.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the PNP-Internal Affairs Service (IAS) filed criminal charges against then National Capital Region Police Office chief Sinas and 18 other police officers for violating ordinance of Taguig City and Republic Act 11332 regarding the ma\u00f1anita incident.<\/p>\n<p>Sinas said he does not have the time to answer all criticisms against him.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Sinabi ko yan<\/em>\u00a0(I have said) that&#8217;s part of the job,\u00a0<em>hindi po natin maiwasan &#8216;yun. Sinusundan niyo naman ako since nag-<\/em>Region 7\u00a0<em>ako hanggang ngayon, part na po &#8216;yan. Ako lang, pinapakita ko lang &#8216;yung mga gawaing tama at<\/em>\u00a0accomplishment\u00a0<em>namin<\/em>\u00a0(that cannot be avoided. You&#8217;ve been following me since my stint in Region 7 until now.
