MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Interior Secretary Eduardo A\u00f1o on Tuesday said just like other activities, caroling for the Christmas season can be done online to prevent further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).<\/p>\n

\u201cKung magkakaroon ng<\/em>\u00a0caroling,\u00a0siguro<\/em>\u00a0online\u00a0na lang<\/em>, online caroling\u00a0pero yung<\/em>\u00a0personal at saka<\/em>\u00a0face-to-face\u00a0ay sa ngayon hindi pa muna nararapat dahil hindi pa natin nafa<\/em>-flatten\u00a0ang<\/em>\u00a0(If there would be carolings, these can be done online. Online caroling is okay but personal and face-to-face is not because we have yet to flatten the) curve (of coronavirus disease 2019),\u201d A\u00f1o said in a radio interview.<\/p>\n

A\u00f1o, who is also vice chair of the National Task Force Against Covid-19, said he would propose to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) a nationwide ban on face-to-face caroling this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cHindi pa naman yan bawal kasi hindi pa nagkakaroon ng<\/em>\u00a0resolution mula sa<\/em>\u00a0IATF\u00a0pero yan na ang ating ire<\/em>-recommend.\u00a0Yan din ang<\/em>\u00a0recommendation\u00a0ng<\/em>\u00a0mayors\u00a0natin sa<\/em>\u00a0NCR. (For now, it is not yet prohibited there is no IATF resolution yet but that is what we would recommend. That is also the recommendation of our mayors in the National Capital Region),\u201d A\u00f1o said.<\/p>\n

Metro Manila mayors have also earlier agreed to ban Christmas parties in the region this year as these could lead to mass gatherings which may result in a spike of Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Joint Task Force Covid Shield commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar also backed a proposal to ban face-to-face caroling this Christmas season to prevent further transmission of the Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Eleazar said while he understands that caroling has always been part of the Filipino tradition, the country is now facing a different situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are facing a serious threat of coronavirus disease and we in the JTF Covid Shield believe that it is in the health interest of everybody if we could just stay home and enjoy the yuletide season with our family,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

If the caroling ban is approved, Eleazar said parents should explain to their children why there is a need to skip the traditional caroling at least for this year.<\/p>\n
