MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 More than 2,000 permits and clearances to build cell towers filed by telecommunications companies have so far been approved by local government units (LGUs), Interior Secretary Eduardo A\u00f1o said.<\/p>\n

In a televised Cabinet meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday night, A\u00f1o said for the past two weeks, an additional 815 applications for cell tower construction have been approved.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo total\u00a0po,<\/em>\u00a02,082\u00a0na ang na<\/em>-approve\u00a0natin na mga<\/em>\u00a0telco tower (applications)\u00a0mula po noong ipinag-utos niyo ito. At mayroon pong<\/em>\u00a0637 pending applications. So\u00a0ito po \u2018yung aasikasuhin namin<\/em>\u00a0(In total, we have approved 2,082 telco tower applications since you have ordered this. There are 637 pending applications. We are now working on these),\u201d A\u00f1o told the President.<\/p>\n

Earlier, A\u00f1o said the LGUs have complied with the order of Duterte to fast-track the process for the construction of cell towers to boost the telecommunication companies\u2019 cellular and internet services.<\/p>\n

He said the application process had already been shortened to 16 days and the required permits were also cut down which made it for the telecommunication companies easier to comply.<\/p>\n
