(File: ALBERTO ALCAIN\/ PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he was \u201cwaiting for the typhoon to pass\u201d and visited the resting place of his late parents, the reason for his absence in the government&#8217;s first briefing on its response to Super Typhoon &#8220;Rolly&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In a Cabinet meeting aired over PTV-4, Duterte said while he failed to make it to the briefing because of the typhoon, he really intended to be there as soon as the weather permitted.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cItong mga ugok naman sinabi na wala ako<\/em>\u00a0(These idiots, they\u2019re saying I was absent), I was waiting for the typhoon to pass, then<em>\u00a0lumipad ak<\/em>o (I flew),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said he spent the weekend in Davao City before the All Saints\u2019 Day and All Souls\u2019 Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kami taga probinsya<\/em>, we travel almost with regularity,\u00a0<em>bakasyon<\/em>, all Souls\u2019 Day,\u00a0<em>kaya nga ako nauwi<\/em>\u00a0(We from the province, we travel almost with regularity, vacation, all Souls\u2019 Day, that\u2019s why I went home),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said he could not skip his tradition of paying respects to his late parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know\u00a0<em>kung wala kayong patay, okay lang. Kami may mga pamatay, kailangan umuwi kami doon sa amin<\/em>\u00a0(if you don\u2019t have deceased loved ones, it\u2019s okay. Us, we have that\u2019s why we need to return home),\u201d he said.
