(ABS-CBN photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>ABS-CBN and TFC will be screening for the first time in United Arab Emirates (UAE) the film, \u201c<strong>Quezon\u2019s Game<\/strong>,\u201d which tells how a leader\u2019s act of kindness and step towards equality saved lives. The film, which will be screening in UAE starting November 12, had a successful run in the U.S. and Asia and Pacific, and a unique film in concert premiere and screening in Europe early this year.<\/p>\n<p>This is just in time after UAE and Israel signed a Peace Treaty, where both countries are \u201cdesiring to establish peace, diplomatic and friendly relations, co-operation and full normalization of ties between them and their peoples,\u201d among others as stated in the treaty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Quezon\u2019s Game<\/strong>\u201d tells the story of how Philippine President Manuel Quezon, future U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower, and several other notable figures set out to rescue Jewish refugees from the ghettos of Germany and Austria. What seems within their power at first, turns out to be fraught with astronomical obstacles and on top of this, Quezon must battle a relapse of tuberculosis. In his final days, Quezon asks if he could have done more, before recollecting one of the least known, but most uplifting stories in Philippine history.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that through this film, the world could appreciate and celebrate the contribution of the Philippines and its people to the humanity during the dark times in the 1930s. We believe this represents the selflessness and unwavering courage of the Filipinos,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Joseph Arnie Garcia<\/strong>, Managing Director of ABS-CBN in Europe, Middle East and Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The film, which was produced by\u00a0<strong>Star Cinema<\/strong>\u00a0in association with\u00a0<strong>iWant<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Kinetek<\/strong>, stars\u00a0<strong>Raymund Bagatsing<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Rachel Alejandro<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>David Bianco<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Billy Ray Gallion<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>James Paolelli<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Kate Alejandrino<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is directed by\u00a0<strong>Matthew Rosen<\/strong>, written by\u00a0<strong>Janice Y. Perez<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Dean Rosen<\/strong>\u00a0which was based on the original story of Matthew Rosen and Lorena H. Rosen, under the Supervising Producer\u00a0<strong>Marizel S. Martinez<\/strong>\u00a0and Creative Producers\u00a0<strong>Enrico C. Santos<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>John Paul E. Abellera<\/strong>. The film\u2019s Executive Producers were\u00a0<strong>Carlo L. Katigbak<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Olivia M. Lamasan<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Linggit Tan-Marasigan,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Lorena H. Rosen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from its moving story, the film boasts the numerous international awards it won:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>2019 IndieFEST Film Awards<\/strong>: \u201cAwards of Excellence\u201d for Lead Actor, Direction, Asian Film, Cinematography, and Original Score<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>2019 WorldFest-Houston International Film + Video Festival<\/strong>: \u201cGold Remi Awards\u201d for Best Foreign Feature, Best Director, Best Producer, and Best Art Direction<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<strong>2019 Cinema World Fest Annual Gala<\/strong>: \u201cBest in Show Grand Champion\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The film also received an \u201cExcellence Special Mention\u201d at the\u00a0<strong>2019 Accolade Global Film Competition<\/strong>; was a finalist at Israel\u2019s\u00a0<strong>2019<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Near Nazareth Festival<\/strong>; and an official selection at the\u00a0<strong>2019 Maryland International Film Festival<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>2019 Ramsgate International Film + TV Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Quezon\u2019s Game<\/strong>\u201d is the first Filipino-produced film to be screened in the UAE cinemas as it resumed operations last August after months of lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
