(File: ROBINSON NI\u00d1AL JR.\/PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Malaca\u00f1ang on Tuesday asked the public to give the Department of Public Works and Highways-led task force a &#8220;chance&#8221; to address alleged corruption hounding the agency.<\/p>\n<p>DPWH Secretary Mark Villar on Monday issued a department order forming the Task Force Against Graft and Corruption (TAG), made up of five officials to investigate anomalies allegedly committed by officials and employees inside the agency, based on valid complaints.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Siguro po pangunang hakbang lang iyan na ginawa ng<\/em>\u00a0DPWH\u00a0<em>para nga i<\/em>-address<em>\u00a0iyong problema ng korapsiyon na nilabas ng ating Presidente,<\/em>\u00a0so\u00a0<em>pagbigyan naman po natin sila<\/em>\u00a0(This may be the first step the DPWH is taking to address the corruption that the President revealed. Let&#8217;s give them a chance to work on this),&#8221; Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roques said in a presser.<\/p>\n<p>In his Talk to the Nation last week, Duterte said corruption is embedded in the public works projects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Let\u2019s give them a chance\u00a0<em>dahil sa aking pagkakaalam talagang<\/em>\u00a0this is one of the rare moments\u00a0<em>na ina<\/em>-address\u00a0<em>natin ang korapsiyon diyan sa<\/em>\u00a0DPWH\u00a0<em>na ang sabi nga ni Presidente ay lantaran at parang<\/em>\u00a0systemic (because based on my knowledge this is of the rare moments that we are addressing corruption inside DPWH which, as the President described, is overt and appear to be systemic),&#8221; Roque said.<\/p>\n<p>Roque said Malaca\u00f1ang would welcome any findings the DPWH-initiated task force would submit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Of course, welcome\u00a0<em>po talaga lahat ng mga<\/em>\u00a0findings\u00a0<em>ng<\/em>\u00a0task force\u00a0<em>na iyan. At sa publiko po \u2018no, ulitin ko po<\/em>\u00a08888\u00a0<em>o \u2018di naman kaya ipadala ninyo lang dito sa ating tanggapan at napakadami na pong<\/em>\u00a0cases\u00a0<em>ng korapsiyon na nakarating sa ating tanggapan na nabigyan po ng solusyon<\/em>\u00a0(we will welcome all the findings of the task force. For the public, I&#8217;m reminding you to report any corruption you may know on 8888 or send it to our office so that we could find a solution),&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte on Monday criticized the alleged anomalies inside DPWH but cleared Villar of corruption in public works projects.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Karamihan diyan sa<\/em>\u00a0DPWH\u00a0<em>mga<\/em>\u00a0project engineers.\u00a0<em>Diyan ang &#8212; sa baba ang tala&#8230;<\/em>\u00a0<em>Si<\/em>\u00a0Villar,\u00a0<em>mayaman<\/em>. Secretary Villar,\u00a0<em>maraming pera \u2018yan. Hindi niya kailangan mangurakot. Ang problema sa baba, malakas pa rin hanggang ngayon<\/em>\u00a0(Most of the people there are project engineers. It really is on the ground&#8230; Villar is rich, he has a lot of money. He doesn&#8217;t need to engage in corruption. The problem is on the ground, it remains rampant),&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte suggested putting up a &#8220;structure&#8221; inside the agency to improve the integrity of DPWH projects. He likewise encouraged the public to report irregularities by utilizing the 8888 hotline.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Puwede ninyong ma-<\/em>report\u00a0<em>maski ano basta<\/em>\u00a0corruption and\u00a0<em>walang patawad<\/em>. I do not forgive cases<em>\u00a0sa mga<\/em>\u00a0corruption.\u00a0<em>Wala talaga. Walang areglo, wala lahat<\/em>\u00a0(You can report any suspicions of corruption and I won&#8217;t forgive. I do not forgive cases where corruption is involved).
