MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The number of active coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases among the officers and personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is now down to 77 compared to 237 on September 1.<\/p>\n

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the PCG said there were 171 recoveries among its ranks from September 11 to 22, bringing its total recoveries to 1,492 with zero deaths among its 1,569 frontline personnel that were infected with Covid-19.<\/p>\n

To date, it has 18 cases of reinfection \u2014 three active cases while 15 others have \u201csuccessfully recovered for the second and third time of reinfection.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe health condition of infected PCG frontline personnel are regularly monitored, most especially the 18 cases of reinfection as of yesterday, 22 September 2020,\u201d the PCG said.<\/p>\n

It said most of its infected personnel were frontline workers \u2014 those from the Department of Transportation\u2019s (DOTr) free ride for health program, those who helped bring home locally stranded individuals, among other initiatives of the PCG against Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Aside from the regular swab testing, it said a regular supply of vitamins, personal protective equipment sets, medical supplies, and strategic deployment to ensure rest periods and work breaks are provided for its frontline workers to keep them healthy and lessen the chances of Covid-19 infections.<\/p>\n

It said \u201cnutritious meals\u201d are also provided for its workers while UV lights are used to augment manual disinfection of the PCG\u2019s work stations and living quarters.<\/p>\n

To better manage its active Covid-19 cases, it said the PCG\u2019s own quarantine facility will be open \u201cany day this month\u201d and can accommodate up to 224 infected individuals at the same time.<\/p>\n
