(Pixabay photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"margin-bottom-medium\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-auto\">\n<div class=\"cmp-text\">\n<p>The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is reminding all travellers who are celebrating the upcoming holidays of Rosh Hashanah (September\u00a018\u00a0to\u00a020,\u00a02020) and Yom Kippur (September\u00a027\u00a0and\u00a028,\u00a02020), that\u00a0<strong>travel restrictions<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>are still in place<\/strong>\u00a0at all Canadian international border crossings including land, marine, air and rail ports of entry.<\/p>\n<p>The Government of Canada remains committed to protecting the health and safety of Canadians and minimizing the risk of spreading of COVID-19 in Canada.\u00a0<span lang=\"EN\">Before you travel, consult\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca\/services\/covid\/non-canadians-canadiens-eng.html?utm_source=news.gc&amp;utm_medium=news&amp;utm_campaign=covid-19-highholiday&amp;utm_content=EN_0137#s1\">federal<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection\/symptoms\/provincial-territorial-resources-covid-19.html\">provincial\/territorial<\/a>\u00a0entry, quarantine and public health requirements.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Importing goods<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In anticipation of the holidays, residents living in Canada may want to import traditional items by mail from abroad such as Ram\u2019s horn, Challah (bread), Kreplach (dumplings) or other items. The travel restrictions do not impact the cross-border movement of goods. However, before placing your order, ensure that you know the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca\/import\/postal-postale\/menu-eng.html\">rules<\/a>\u00a0as the importation of certain goods, including food, plant or animal products, may be restricted or prohibited in Canada, while other items may require permits.<\/p>\n<p>To facilitate and expedite processing when receiving international mail items including online purchases, the CBSA asks you to keep in mind the following tips, which can be shared with friends and family sending you items from abroad:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are expecting a gift from abroad, the person must send it to you personally and include a card or other notice indicating that it is a gift. Any gift to someone living in Canada is duty and tax free, provided its value is CDN$60 or less. For a gift of over CDN$60,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca\/import\/courier\/menu-eng.html#_s2\">applicable duties and\/or taxes<\/a>\u00a0will be collected on the difference between the value of the gift and CDN$60.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Some items are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca\/travel-voyage\/rpg-mrp-eng.html\">restricted and prohibited goods<\/a>. If prohibited goods are discovered,\u00a0the CBSA will take appropriate enforcement action. If restricted goods are discovered, the CBSA will hold the items and inform you by mail that you need the proper import documents before they can be released.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>Quick facts<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>The temporary restrictions on all optional\/discretionary travel to Canada continue and may be prolonged for public health reasons.<\/li>\n<li>Canadian citizens, permanent residents and Registered Indians under the\u00a0<em>Indian Act<\/em>\u00a0continue to enter Canada by right, and are subject to COVID-19 entry screening measures.<\/li>\n<li>All persons entering Canada, unless exempted \u2013 no matter their country of origin or mode of entry \u2013\u00a0<strong>must<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/publications\/diseases-conditions\/2019-novel-coronavirus-information-sheet.html\">quarantine<\/a>\u00a0themselves for 14 days if they do not have symptoms of COVID-19 or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection\/prevention-risks.html#self\">isolate<\/a>\u00a0themselves for 14 days if they have symptoms of or are confirmed as having COVID-19. Foreign nationals who are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 will\u00a0<strong>not<\/strong>\u00a0be permitted to enter Canada, regardless of their reason for travel.<\/li>\n<li>The CBSA has temporarily suspended or reduced service at certain small vessel reporting sites, small airports of entry, ferry terminals and to the Remote Area Border Crossing program. Travellers should review the list of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca\/do-rb\/openpoe-temp-pdeouvert\/air-aerien-eng.html?utm_source=news.gc&amp;utm_medium=news&amp;utm_campaign=covid-19-highholiday&amp;utm_content=EN_0139\">CBSA locations that remain open<\/a>\u00a0during this temporary service suspension.<\/li>\n<li>Travellers should consult the respective\u00a0<a>provincial\/territorial websites<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0ensure that they are aware of the provincial\/territorial entry, quarantine and public health requirements and can abide by those requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Anyone arriving in Canada in any mode (air, land or marine) must provide their contact information to a border services officer (either by paper, online, via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/public-health\/services\/diseases\/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection\/latest-travel-health-advice.html#a_arriveCAN\">ArriveCAN App<\/a>\u00a0or verbally to the officer) when seeking entry. This information is collected on behalf of the Public Health Agency of Canada to support their compliance and enforcement of the 14-day quarantine or isolation requirement outlined in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/orders-in-council.canada.ca\/index.php?lang=en\">Order in Council\u00a0<\/a><a>2020-0589<\/a>. Travellers are encouraged to download the mobile\u00a0<a>ArriveCAN App<\/a>\u00a0prior to arrival to reduce wait times and limit contact at the border.<\/li>\n<li>Asymptomatic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca\/services\/covid\/non-canadians-canadiens-eng.html?utm_source=news.gc&amp;utm_medium=news&amp;utm_campaign=covid-19-highholiday&amp;utm_content=EN_0141#s2\">immediate family members, spouses or common-law partners of Canadian citizens and permanent residents<\/a>\u00a0who meet the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/coronavirus-covid19\/travel-restrictions-exemptions.html#immediate\">immediate family member definition<\/a>\u00a0and are coming to Canada for a minimum of 15 days will be exempt from the prohibition from entering Canada for a discretionary\/optional purpose.<\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Failure to comply with the current border restrictions is an offence under the\u00a0<em>Quarantine Act<\/em>\u00a0and could lead to up to $750,000 in fines, and\/or imprisonment of up to 6 months.
