MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 After Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro \u201cTeddy\u201d Locsin Jr. rejected the designation of coast guard attach\u00e9 in Beijing, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Wednesday said there are also pending requests to place attach\u00e9 posts in Malaysia and Indonesia.<\/p>\n

\u201cSabay-sabay siya<\/em>\u00a0finile\u00a0yung<\/em>\u00a0request,\u00a0nauna lang siya ng konti pero wala pa rin naman resulta<\/em>\u00a0(The requests were filed simultaneously, there was one that was filed a bit earlier but there is still no result),\u201d PCG spokesperson Commodore Armando Balilo said in a phone interview.<\/p>\n

Currently, he said the Philippines also has an existing maritime attach\u00e9 posted in London and is currently exploring to designate another post in the United States.<\/p>\n

In 2017, the Maritime Industry Authority established the maritime attach\u00e9 post in London currently occupied by Sonia Maluluan since 2018.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Balilo said the PCG respects Locsin\u2019s claim that having a PCG attach\u00e9 in Beijing would equate to Manila conceding its exclusive sovereignty over the Philippines\u2019 coastal waters.<\/p>\n

\u201cHindi ko alam kung bakit ganun, parang na<\/em>-conclude\u00a0ni<\/em>\u00a0Secretary [Locsin]. But we respect\u00a0kung ano ang mga<\/em>\u00a0information\u00a0niya<\/em>\u00a0(I don\u2019t know why Secretary Locsin has that kind of conclusion. But we respect his information on this),\u201d Balilo said.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the PCG said a coast guard attach\u00e9 with China would directly coordinate and facilitate \u201cbilateral and multilateral\u201d talks with China in relation to the establishment of the Joint Coast Guard Committee (JCGC), specifically in maritime search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, maritime security, maritime safety, and marine environmental protection.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was anchored on the memorandum of understanding between the PCG and the China Coast Guard (CCG) on the establishment of the [JCGC] to strengthen mutual trust, deepen confidence, intensify communication, and enhance friendly cooperation between two countries,\u201d the PCG said.<\/p>\n

It said the recommendation to establish coast guard attach\u00e9s in Malaysia and Indonesia was also founded on the same goals.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
