(Photo by Marcelino Pascua\/PCOO)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday advised Vice President Maria Leonor \u201cLeni\u201d Robredo to avoid making the situation in the country worse amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease do not add fuel to the fire. You will just destroy the government,\u201d Duterte told Robredo in his taped public address aired on state-run PTV-4 on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte gave the advice, as he reacted to Robredo\u2019s claim that the Philippines seems to have \u201cno leader\u201d as it continues to grapple with the impacts of the health crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Robredo, in a video posted on her official Facebook page on Monday, said it appears that \u201cno one is at the helm, no direction, no clear horizon as to when and how this pandemic will be addressed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the government, after giving a \u201cbit of assistance,\u201d seems to have left Filipinos to fend for themselves, \u201clocked in [their] homes, living in fear\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Robredo, in her speech, said in Filipino: \u201cAs if we should shoulder the blame of infections and death, for being too undisciplined, as we have been called. As if we have nothing to expect from our leaders \u2013 or there are no leaders at all. As if we have been left to fend for ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She then called on her fellow Filipinos to \u201cexpect and demand more\u201d from the country\u2019s leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte lamented that Robredo tends to incite hatred against the government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>At ito namang kay Leni,<\/em>\u00a0in her ending statement, whether\u00a0<em>kung hindi ko raw gawin, itong gobyerno, babawiin ng tao<\/em>\u00a0(Leni, in her ending statement, said the people will make a way if the government fails to act),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said it was \u201cbaseless\u201d for Robredo to claim that the government is doing nothing to defeat Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell\u00a0<em>sa panahon nitong<\/em>\u00a0pandemic,\u00a0<em>medyo desperado ang mga tao, tapos dagdagan ninyo ng mga ganoon na wala naman kayong base<\/em>\u00a0(In this time of the pandemic, people are desperate, and you are issuing a baseless statement),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte told Robredo that destabilizing the government amid the Covid-19 crisis would not be good for the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Huwag nyong sirain ang gobyerno kasi masisira ang tao. Kapag nasisira ang gobyerno, lulutang tayong lahat<\/em>\u00a0(Do not undermine the government because you also undermine the people.
