(PCOO file photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) have no intent to control the local government units (LGUs) amid the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), Malaca\u00f1ang said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the clarification after Senator Risa Hontiveros slammed the IATF-EID\u2019s supposed \u201ctoxic micromanagement\u201d of LGUs\u2019 Covid-19 response.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMali po \u2018yung interpretasyon ni<\/em>\u00a0Senator Hontiveros.\u00a0<em>Wala pong<\/em>\u00a0intervention,\u00a0<em>wala pong panghihimasok ang ginagawa namin<\/em>\u00a0(Senator Hontiveros\u2019 interpretation is wrong. There is no intervention. We do not intervene),\u201d Roque said in a virtual press briefing.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Hontiveros asked her colleagues to investigate the IATF-EID members\u2019 assignment to monitor the Covid-19 response of local governments that have recorded high community transmission within their respective localities.<\/p>\n<p>IATF-EID Resolution 62, which was approved on August 12, directs its members to provide \u201cstronger\u201d support to LGUs in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal to help them further boost their efforts to combat Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>The IATF-EID members have been ordered to strictly monitor the LGUs\u2019 health system performance, critical care capacity, and stringent compliance with surveillance, isolation, and treatment protocols.<\/p>\n<p>Roque maintained that the IATF-EID members\u2019 role is merely limited to monitoring the LGUs\u2019 efforts to contain Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTinatanong lang po namin kung paanong makakatulong ang pang<\/em>-national\u00a0<em>na gobyerno sa mga lokal na pamahalaan<\/em>\u00a0(We are just asking them how the national government could help the local governments),\u201d he said. \u201cIt is not our intention to intervene with the works of local government units.\u00a0<em>Bigay lang kami po ng suporta<\/em>\u00a0(We just give support).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The directive to IATF-EID members intends to \u201cfurther operationalize the national government-enabled, local government-led, and people-centered response\u201d against Covid-19, according to the resolution.<\/p>\n<p>Hontiveros said IATF-EID members \u201care not experts nor do they have any experience in health system performance, critical care capacity and surveillance, isolation, and treatment protocols.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that it was \u201cimprudent\u201d to assign members of the task force to monitor LGUs when it \u201chas already been saddled with controversies involving its policy decisions and pronouncements, the accuracy of the data reported, and even some allegedly anomalous procurement-related transactions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hontiveros also said the IATF-EID should instead trust local officials in coming up with a strategic plan against Covid-19.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0\u2013 Members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) have no intent to control &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":259982,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1145,16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-265675","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headline","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-ruth-abbey-gita-carlos","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/265675","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=265675"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/265675\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":265680,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/265675\/revisions\/265680"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/259982"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=265675"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=265675"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=265675"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
