MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 President Rodrigo Duterte has no plan yet to replace Ricardo Morales after the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) president and chief executive officer filed a medical leave, Malaca\u00f1ang said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cKung magtatalaga po ng bagong<\/em>\u00a0president\u00a0ng<\/em>\u00a0PhilHealth\u00a0si Presidente, wala pang sinabi ang Presidente<\/em>\u00a0(Whether the President will appoint new PhilHealth president, the President has not said that yet),\u201d Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual press briefing.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 7, Duterte ordered the Department of Justice (DOJ) to lead a task force to investigate the supposed widespread corruption and irregularities within PhilHealth.<\/p>\n

Duterte directed the task force to make an audit of the PhilHealth finances and conduct lifestyle checks on the state corporation\u2019s officials and employees.<\/p>\n

Amid controversies hounding PhilHealth, Morales filed a medical leave following his doctor\u2019s advice to undergo six cycles of chemotherapy at a private hospital in Metro Manila.<\/p>\n

Morales\u2019 medical certificate signed by his oncologist cited his \u201cdiagnosed case of Diffuse Large B cell lymphoma.<\/p>\n

Roque, however, reiterated that Duterte still trusts Morales despite several issues plaguing PhilHealth.<\/p>\n

He said Morales still enjoys Duterte\u2019s trust and confidence, unless evidence proves that the PhilHealth chief is also involved in corrupt activities.<\/p>\n

Roque was also confident that there would be no \u201cleadership vacuum\u201d in PhilHealth.<\/p>\n

He said the services of PhilHealth will remain unhampered despite the corruption issues that continue to plague the state-run health insurance agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cKahit ano po ang maging desisyon ni<\/em>\u00a0General Morales,\u00a0meron po talagang<\/em>\u00a0systems in place\u00a0para magpatuloy ang trabaho ng kahit anong organisasyon sa gobyerno<\/em>\u00a0(Whatever General Morales decision will be, systems are in place to ensure that services in any government office remain unhampered),\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n

For now, Duterte wishes Morales \u201cspeedy recovery,\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n

In a public address delivered Monday, Duterte said he would go after corrupt PhilHealth officials.<\/p>\n

Duterte\u2019s statement came following the revelation of resigned PhilHealth anti-fraud legal officer Thorsson Montes Keith that around PHP15 billion of the agency\u2019s funds have been allegedly pocketed by PhilHealth officials.<\/p>\n
