(PCOO file photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Malaca\u00f1ang on Friday dismissed as \u201cfalse\u201d and \u201cinconclusive\u201d the reports that the Philippines now emerges as Southeast Asia\u2019s coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) hot spot, after allegedly overtaking Indonesia as the worst-hit nation in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Philippines has reported more Covid-19 cases than Indonesia because of Manila\u2019s improved testing capacity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Dahil mas maigting ang ating pagte<\/em>-test,<em>\u00a0hindi po totoo na mas maraming kaso tayo kaysa sa<\/em>\u00a0Indonesia (Because we have intensified our testing capacity, it\u2019s not true that we have more cases than Indonesia),\u201d Roque said in a virtual press conference.<\/p>\n<p>Roque noted that the Philippines can conduct an average of 28,938 Covid-19 tests per day, higher than Indonesia\u2019s 14,921 Covid-19 tests per day.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the Philippines\u2019 testing capacity is \u201cthree times\u201d more advanced than Indonesia\u2019s ability to conduct tests for Covid-19 daily, Roque said.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Philippines reported 3,561 new Covid-19 infections.<\/p>\n<p>This raises the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 119,460, surpassing Indonesia&#8217;s 118,753 cases.<\/p>\n<p>Belying reports that the Philippines now has the most number of Covid-19 cases in Southeast Asia, Roque stressed that Bali only has \u201cone-third of the actual testing\u201d that Manila has conducted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo\u00a0<em>\u2018yun po ang aking<\/em>\u00a0basis for saying\u00a0<em>na hindi naman talaga totoo at<\/em>\u00a0conclusive\u00a0<em>na mas marami na tayong kaso dito sa Pilipinas<\/em>\u00a0compared to Indonesia (So that\u2019s my basis for saying that it is false and inconclusive to say that the Philippines has more cases compared to Indonesia),\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19, President Rodrigo Duterte has once again imposed tougher quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila and its nearby provinces.<\/p>\n<p>Modified enhanced quarantine, the second most stringent quarantine classification, has been imposed in Metro Manila and the provinces of Laguna, Rizal, Cavite and Bataan from Aug. 4 to 18.<\/p>\n<p>Roque ensured that the government would continue to push for measures that would help defeat Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Mas kilala na po natin ang anyo ng<\/em>\u00a0Covid-19.\u00a0<em>Kumpara noong Marso, alam na natin kung paano ito kumakalat, alam na rin natin kung paano ito maiiwasan<\/em>\u00a0(We are now more familiar with Covid-19.
