(Pexels photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The actual date for the school opening amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic will be tackled in President Rodrigo Duterte\u2019s next meeting with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).<\/p>\n<p>In a taped public address aired on state-run PTV-4 on Friday morning, Duterte said the decision on the opening of classes would be announced in his next public address.<\/p>\n<p>He made the statement as he maintained that face-to-face classes would only resume, once a vaccine against Covid-19 is developed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the next meeting, we will decide on the actual date of how to open the schools.\u00a0<em>Ang akin, basta mabakunahan lang<\/em>\u00a0(My stance is there should be a vaccine first),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>On July 17, he signed Republic Act (RA) 11480, which allows the President, upon the recommendation of the Education Secretary, to set a different date for the start of the school year in the country in case of a state of emergency or state of calamity.<\/p>\n<p>Under RA 11480, the school year shall start on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Education (DepEd) has already scheduled the school opening on August 24 and the end of the school year on April 30, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Education Secretary Leonor Briones, in a meeting held at Malaca\u00f1an on Thursday night, told Duterte that the government is ready to implement blended learning when schools open on August 24.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cKayang-kaya nating mag<\/em>-start\u00a0<em>sa<\/em>\u00a0August 24\u00a0<em>sa<\/em>\u00a0blended learning\u00a0<em>na<\/em>\u00a0approach\u00a0<em>natin<\/em>\u00a0(We can start the blended learning approach on August 24),\u201d Briones said.<\/p>\n<p>Blended learning is a combination of online distance learning and in-person delivery of education materials to the homes of learners.<\/p>\n<p>The DepEd was forced to shift the modality of teaching from the traditional face-to-face classes to blended learning due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Briones noted that as of July 30, about 92 percent of learners in public schools and 31 percent of learners in private schools have enrolled.<\/p>\n<p>She assured Duterte that face-to-face classes would happen in 2020, noting that strict minimum health standards must be observed.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAng<\/em>\u00a0(The) schedule for face-to-face will be in 2021\u00a0<em>pero<\/em>\u00a0very strict\u00a0<em>ang<\/em>\u00a0health standards\u00a0<em>na dine<\/em>-demand\u00a0<em>natin<\/em>\u00a0(and we would demand for very strict health standards),\u201d Briones said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0\u2013 The actual date for the school opening amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic will be tackled in President &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":248297,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-263620","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-ruth-abbey-gita-carlos","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/263620","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=263620"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/263620\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":263621,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/263620\/revisions\/263621"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/248297"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=263620"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=263620"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=263620"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
