Duterte.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte told his Cabinet on Thursday to take \u201cdrastic\u201d steps against government offices, especially local government units (LGUs), which are behind the delay in the establishment of additional telecommunication towers in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really corruption,\u201d he said in a speech aired on state-run PTV-4 on Friday morning. \u201c<em>Ang<\/em>\u00a0order\u00a0<em>ko sa<\/em>\u00a0Cabinet\u00a0<em>ngayon<\/em>\u00a0is to really take\u00a0<em>&#8216;yung pinakamabigat<\/em>\u00a0(My order to the Cabinet is to take) the most drastic measures that you can find\u00a0<em>para magkaintindihan na tayo<\/em>\u00a0(to address the issue).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Duterte made the remarks after he summoned Globe president and chief executive officer Ernest Cu to Malaca\u00f1an on Thursday night.<\/p>\n<p>The President\u2019s meeting with Cu came three days after he warned that Globe Telecom, Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc., the wireless arm of PLDT Inc., could face closure if the two telecommunications firms (telcos) fail to improve their services by yearend.<\/p>\n<p>Cu told Duterte that the sluggish processing of permits for the construction of additional telecommunication towers in the country burdens his company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Ang<\/em>\u00a025 to 29 permit,\u00a0<em>umaabot ng walong buwan. There are also miscellaneous fees, different towers fees, and special use permit.
