Razon)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Philippines has entered into security agreements with neighboring states in the Southeast Asian region to protect its shared maritime borders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We strengthened our maritime security cooperation with neighboring nations such as Indonesia and Malaysia,&#8221; Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, head of the Security, Justice, Peace Cluster said in a pre-SONA forum aired at PTV-4 Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He was referring to the trilateral maritime patrols between the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia which was launched in June 2017 and aimed at securing &#8220;areas of common concern&#8221; to the three countries.<\/p>\n<p>It is aimed at countering the movements of violent extremists and terrorists.<\/p>\n<p>Also, to protect the biodiversity in its waters, Lorenzana said the country has launched a number of marine explorations, mostly centered at the Philippine Rise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the Philippine Rise, the government-funded an All-Filipino Marine Science Research Expedition to coordinate marine science research initiatives and related activities,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>In line with this, consultations were also held with the National Coast Watch Council and the National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea to update the country&#8217;s national marine policy.<\/p>\n<p>The country also entered into an agreement with other nations to help manage and safeguard their marine resources in their respective exclusive economic zones.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have also agreed with Indonesia and Palau to advance common interests in managing and preserving marine resources in the exclusive economic zone of the three countries,&#8221; Lorenzana said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0\u2013 The Philippines has entered into security agreements with neighboring states in the Southeast Asian region to protect its shared &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":250156,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-262591","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-priam-nepomuceno","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/262591","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=262591"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/262591\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":262592,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/262591\/revisions\/262592"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/250156"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=262591"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=262591"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=262591"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
