MANILA<\/strong> \u2013 Malaca\u00f1ang on Friday spurned the call of the lawyer who wants public disclosure of President Rodrigo Duterte\u2019s health records to show proof that the 75-year-old Chief Executive is \u201c88 percent\u201d physically healthy.<\/p>\n

This, after lawyer Dino de Leon wrote a letter on Thursday, asking Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque to prove his recent claim that Duterte\u2019s physical health is at 88 percent.<\/p>\n

De Leon explained in his letter that Roque, as Duterte\u2019s spokesperson, may have \u201cboth factual and legal basis\u201d to claim that the President is still in the \u201cpink of health.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn light of the importance of the President\u2019s health to the public, as well as the people\u2019s right to be assured that the statements of the Presidential Spokesperson are accurate, I respectfully request that you provide the public with that basis of your conclusion that the President is 88 percent healthy,\u201d he told Roque.<\/p>\n

Responding to the letter, Roque said the Supreme Court\u2019s (SC) ruling against de Leon\u2019s petition seeking the release of Duterte\u2019s medical records merely proves that there is no need to prove that Duterte\u2019s health remains in good condition.<\/p>\n

\u201cAtty. Dino de Leon already lost his case in the Supreme Court where he asked the tribunal to compel President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to publicly disclose his health records. The decision speaks for itself,\u201d he said in a statement sent to Palace reporters.<\/p>\n

Roque was referring to the SC\u2019s decision to reject de Leon\u2019s plea to gain access to Duterte\u2019s health records.<\/p>\n

De Leon\u2019s petition was denied by the high court in May. However, the SC released its resolution on the lawyer\u2019s plea just on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In its five-page resolution dated May 8, the SC explained it had to junk de Leon\u2019s request to divulge Duterte\u2019s medical results and health bulletins for lack of merit.<\/p>\n

The high court also noted that Duterte\u2019s regular public appearances amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic belie de Leon\u2019s \u201cinsinuation that the President is suffering from serious illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roque said de Leon should accept his defeat and respect the SC ruling.<\/p>\n
