(PCOO file photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has approved the plan to step up screening and surveillance strategies in the country\u2019s ports to contain the further spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).<\/p>\n<p>Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the IATF-EID, through Resolution 53, approved on Thursday the recommendation of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 to hire more civilians for contact tracing and swabbing in ports of entry.<\/p>\n<p>Roque, also acting as IATF-EID spokesperson, said Subic and other ports would be tapped as hubs for an international crew change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(It is) subject to established health protocols and guidelines,\u201d he said in a press statement released on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Roque said the IATF-EID also approved the NTF Covid-19\u2019s proposal to establish one-stop shops under the Department of Transportation for the uniform processing of arrivals in all gateways.<\/p>\n<p>The move came as Covid-19 infections continue to spike in the country.<\/p>\n<p>As of Thursday, the Philippines has logged 51,754 confirmed Covid-19 cases, with 12,813 recoveries and 1,314 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>Most areas in the country have been placed under modified general community quarantine, a more relaxed form of community quarantine, to allow more industries to resume operations despite the Covid-19 outbreak.<\/p>\n<p>Cebu City is the only place in the country where the enhanced community quarantine, the strictest quarantine classification, is imposed until July 15.<\/p>\n<p>General community quarantine, on the other hand, is implemented in Metro Manila, Benguet, Cavite, Rizal, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Cebu\u2019s Talisay City, Minglanilla, and Consolacion.<\/p>\n<p>In a televised public address aired Wednesday, President Rodrigo Duterte said he needs to be \u201cvery circumspect\u201d in reopening the Philippine economy.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said the country can only afford the \u201cgradual\u201d resumption of economic activities, as he warned of a possible increase in Covid-19 cases, should he allow the total reopening of the economy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0\u2013 The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has approved the plan to step up &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":261130,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-261129","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-ruth-abbey-gita-carlos","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/261129","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=261129"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/261129\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":261131,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/261129\/revisions\/261131"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/261130"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=261129"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=261129"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=261129"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
