(File <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/w\/index.php?curid=44341212\">Photo By Raysonho\/Wikimedia commons, CC0<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Temporary residents in Canada seeking to extend their stay must apply electronically unless they are one of the exceptions.<\/p>\n<p>Electronic applications became mandatory for most temporary residence applications on June 4, 2019. Applications need to be sent electronically if foreign nationals want to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/stay-in-canada.html\">extend or restore<\/a>\u00a0their immigration status;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/working-in-canada.html\">work<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/study-in-canada-options.html\">study<\/a>\u00a0in Canada; or<\/li>\n<li>come to Canada as part of a youth mobility arrangement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/immigration-refugees-and-citizenship-canada-ircc.html\">Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada<\/a>\u00a0(IRCC), the federal immigration department, allows some exceptions to this rule.<\/p>\n<h3>Exceptional circumstances<\/h3>\n<p>In IRCC\u2019s words, \u201cexceptional circumstances beyond the control of foreign nationals, individuals or entities\u201d can be grounds for sidestepping the online application requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants may fall under this exemption if they cannot submit applications electronically because of inadequate, or incompatible electronic infrastructure in their country.<\/p>\n<p>Exceptional circumstances could also include a natural disaster, political turmoil, or another situation that limits their access to electronic communication.<\/p>\n<h3>Disability<\/h3>\n<p>People who are unable to apply electronically due to a disability are also exempt. Instead, they may apply by a paper application.<\/p>\n<h3>Systems restrictions<\/h3>\n<p>There are two online tools for Canadian immigration applications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/come-canada-tool.html\">Come to Canada tool<\/a>: for assessing eligibility online; or<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/application\/account.html\">MyAccount<\/a>: applicants register and log in using GCKey or a Sign-In Partner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IRCC says these tools are inadequate for some applicants inside Canada, so these people are exempt from the mandatory online application.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the forms that are exempt from the electronic application requirement for people applying from inside Canada:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14951 size-full lazyloaded\" src=\"https:\/\/4597wq4asyz01jes8rz3yr94-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/ExemptformsFINAL-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1182\" height=\"2560\" data-ll-status=\"loaded\" \/><br \/>\nIf the foreign national has an authorized paid representatives with access to Canada\u2019s APR portal, the representative is required to submit applications electronically on behalf of their client.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Temporary residents in Canada seeking to extend their stay must apply electronically unless they are one of the exceptions.
