(Pexels photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Funded by PetSmart Charities\u00ae of Canada and donations from Toronto residents, the City of Toronto is providing assistance to pet owners in under-resourced communities and those facing homelessness, who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. A $30,040 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada has provided 240 pet owners with gift cards to purchase pet food and supplies, such as cat litter and pee pads for dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to donations to Toronto Animal Services directly from residents worth nearly $36,000, the City is continuing to help pet owners affected by COVID-19. To apply for assistance, pet owners can contact Toronto Animal Services by doing one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>completing an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/s.cotsurvey.chkmkt.com\/?e=194413&amp;h=FD18584E7EEC17F&amp;l=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online survey\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"cot-external-link cot-open-new-window\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/wp-content\/themes\/cot\/img\/icon-link-external.svg\" alt=\"Opens in new window\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>emailing\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:taspartnerships@toronto.ca\">taspartnerships@toronto.ca<\/a><\/li>\n<li>calling 416-338-0934 between noon and 4 p.m., 7 days a week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The best place for a pet during COVID-19 is with their owner. However, if pet owners become seriously ill or require hospitalization, the best place for the pet is with a family member or friend.<\/p>\n<p>In case of emergency, pet owners are advised to ensure pets are cared for by taking the following precautions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fill out an\u00a0<a title=\"PDF Document\" href=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/95b0-TAS-Emergency-Pet-Information_FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">emergency information form\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"cot-open-new-window\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toronto.ca\/wp-content\/themes\/cot\/img\/icon-link-pdf.svg\" alt=\"PDF\" \/><\/a>\u00a0and attach a picture of the pet to ensure\u00a0 care needs are known. Keep the form in an obvious location.<\/li>\n<li>Identify a family member or friend who can temporarily take care of the pet.<\/li>\n<li>Have crates, food and extra supplies available for the pet.<\/li>\n<li>Have the pet\u2019s vaccination records and identify all medications, dosages, and administering directions, including the prescription name and the vet\u2019s contact information.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the pet has an identification tag, such as a City of Toronto licence or rabies tag.<\/li>\n<li>Place a list of pets in the home on the front door for emergency responders.
