KING RODRIGUEZ\/PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said erring public officials who are proven to be involved in illicit activities would not get any help from him.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte made the remarks in a taped public address aired on state-run PTV-4 on Friday morning as he reiterated his zero tolerance for corruption.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Duterte said government officials should appropriately spend the funds earmarked for the implementation of programs aimed at arresting the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Wala kayong maasahang tulong sa akin<\/em>\u00a0for after all, did I not warn you earlier\u00a0<em>na huwag itong pera na itong in<\/em>-appropriate\u00a0<em>ng<\/em>\u00a0Congress\u00a0<em>binigay para i<\/em>-implement\u00a0<em>natin<\/em>\u00a0(You will not get any help from me for after all, did I not warn you earlier not to pocket the money appropriated by Congress for us to implement [Covid-19 programs],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte issued the statement as he asked Local Government Secretary Eduardo A\u00f1o for an update on the distribution of cash assistance to poor families affected by the Covid-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00f1o told Duterte that the Department of the Interior and Local Government has already filed cases against erring local public officials who are pocketing the financial aid under the social amelioration program (SAP) that should have been received by the intended beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>He added that many local government officials are also expected to face charges due to their supposed involvement in the unlawful release of SAP aid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Mga<\/em>\u00a0155 barangay captain official<em>\u00a0ang aming iniimibestigahan.
