(Covid-19), Malaca\u00f1ang said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The statement was issued even after Duque recently claimed that the country is now experiencing the second wave of Covid-19 cases, a pronouncement that had been opposed by Malaca\u00f1ang.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Duque\u2019s recent remarks, he still has to perform his duty as the country\u2019s Health chief to address the Covid-19 outbreak, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary Duque will answer allegations in the proper forum but for now let us allow him to do his job during this global health emergency,\u201d Roque said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>Roque made the statement a day after the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) called for Duque\u2019s resignation following the Health chief\u2019s supposedly alarming claim that the country is already on the second wave of Covid-19 infections.<\/p>\n<p>Roque said Duque continues to fulfill his mandate \u201cat the pleasure\u201d of President Rodrigo Duterte, especially amid the Covid-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecretary Francisco Duque III serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, in this Interior Secretary Eduardo A\u00f1o, refuted Duque\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n<p>Roque on Thursday also said that Duque\u2019s interpretation of \u201cwaves\u201d differed from other experts.<\/p>\n<p>Roque said that while medical experts may have a different interpretation of scientific data, Palace relied more on other experts\u2019 opinions that the country remains on the first wave.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Thursday, Duque backtracked on his earlier pronouncement, saying that the Philippines is still in its \u201cfirst major wave of sustained transmission\u201d of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>As of May 21, the
