MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 President Rodrigo Duterte has fired Office of Civil Defense (OCD) deputy administrator, Assistant Secretary Kristoffer James \u201cToby\u201d Purisima, Malaca\u00f1ang announced on Friday.<\/p>\n

In a television interview. Roque said Duterte decided to boot Purisima out of office due to a \u201clack of trust and confidence\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cTinanggal po sa pwesto si<\/em>\u00a0Assistant Secretary Kristoffer \u2018Toby\u2019 Purisima\u00a0ng<\/em>\u00a0OCD (Assistant Secretary Kristoffer \u2018Toby\u2019 Purisima of OCD has been removed from the post) for lack of trust and confidence,\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n

Roque\u2019s announcement came amid the country’s fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.<\/p>\n

OCD, through Administrative Order 27 inked by Duterte on March 31, was tasked as the main coordinating body for donated medical supplies and equipment.<\/p>\n

Roque said Purisima\u2019s office is also involved in the government\u2019s continuing efforts to combat Covid-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeron din pong papel yung opisina niya<\/em>\u00a0(Purisima)\u00a0dito po sa<\/em>\u00a0Covid-19 [crisis]\u00a0dahil kabahagi po sila sa<\/em>\u00a0government response\u00a0sa<\/em>\u00a0Covid-19 (His office also has a role in the Covid-19 crisis because it is also involved in the government response to Covid-19 pandemic),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Roque said Purisima\u2019s office is \u201cat the forefront of providing assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n

He, however, did not mention as to whether Purisima\u2019s removal from office has something to do with the latter’s performance.<\/p>\n

Purisima served as the spokesperson of the Joint Task Force Bangon Marawi before being appointed as an OCD official.<\/p>\n

Roque said Duterte has yet to appoint Purisima’s replacement.<\/p>\n

Roque, in a separate press statement sent to Palace reporters, said Purisima\u2019s dismissal takes effect \u201cimmediately\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
