MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 President Rodrigo R. Duterte flew home to Davao City after the community quarantine in Metro Manila was relaxed, his top security aide confirmed on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes. He (Duterte) is in Davao for a visit after more than two months of not being able to see his family,\u201d Presidential Security Group commander Col. Jesus Durante III said in a text message.<\/p>\n

Durante said Duterte will return to Manila to meet with the members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will be back for the next IATF meeting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Durante, however, did not mention as to when the next IATF-EID\u2019s meeting will be held.<\/p>\n

Duterte decided to stay at Malaca\u00f1an Palace in Manila since he imposed an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the most stringent community quarantine, in the entire Luzon in March.<\/p>\n

He was supposed to return to his hometown, Davao City, on April 7 to join his family in celebrating the 16th birthday of his youngest child, Veronica, on April 10.<\/p>\n

Duterte, however, decided to stay in Manila for over two months to monitor his administration\u2019s response efforts to arrest the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).<\/p>\n

Metro Manila and the provinces of Laguna, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Zambales were placed under modified ECQ (MECQ) from May 16 to 31, based on Resolution 37 inked by the IATF-EID on May 15.<\/p>\n

Only the cities of Cebu and Mandaue remained under ECQ.<\/p>\n

All places nationwide that are not under ECQ or MECQ were placed under general community quarantine (GCQ).<\/p>\n

During the Laging Handa program on Saturday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said all areas in the country are not considered being under the \u201cnew normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roque said GCQ needs to be first reclassified as modified GCQ before an area can experience the new normal.<\/p>\n

\u201cSa ngayon, wala pong lugar sa Pilipinas ang nasa<\/em>\u00a0MGCQ\u00a0at<\/em>\u00a0new normal (For now, all areas in the country are not under MGCQ or the new normal),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
