(<a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/w\/index.php?curid=6074533\">Photo By United States Department of State &#8211; Official photo from THE SECRETARY OF STATE\u2019S REGISTER OF CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY., Public Domain<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The United States government is providing an additional USD5.3 million (approximately PHP269 million) in health and humanitarian assistance to support the Philippines&#8217; fight against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the US Embassy in Manila announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The newest tranche of US assistance brings Washington&#8217;s total aid to USD9.3 million or more than PHP470 million.<\/p>\n<p>The US Agency for International Development (USAID), with the funding, will collaborate with the Philippine government to implement internationally-recognized prevention, control, and response strategies against infectious diseases.<\/p>\n<p>This will include boosting Manila&#8217;s laboratory and specimen-transport systems as well as its case-finding and disease surveillance.<\/p>\n<p>Among others, it will assist Filipino and international technical experts in risk communication, infection prevention and control efforts, handwashing and hygiene promotion, and community-level preparedness and response.<\/p>\n<p>Washington initially announced USD4 million in health funding to support Manila\u2019s efforts to prepare laboratory systems.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy said the US-supported efforts to augment the Department of Health&#8217;s testing capacity have so far contributed to an increase in the daily conducted tests from 200 to approximately 3,000 per day.<\/p>\n<p>The USAID\u2019s online learning modules, on the other hand, are boosting capacities in more than 100 hospitals across the country with up-to-date Covid-19 infection prevention and control information and skills.<\/p>\n<p>The agency has also assisted the DOH develop and launch a nationwide commodity and logistics tracking tool that offers real-time data on stores of life-saving Covid-19 commodities, the embassy said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the US funding helped Filipino and international technical experts in data collection, including support for two surveillance experts assisting the DOH Epidemiology Bureau with analysis and reporting of Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0\u2013 The United States government is providing an additional USD5.3 million (approximately PHP269 million) in health and humanitarian assistance to &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":217829,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-252884","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-joyce-ann-l-rocamora","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/252884","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=252884"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/252884\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":252885,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/252884\/revisions\/252885"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/217829"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=252884"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=252884"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=252884"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
