MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 As the Christian community celebrates Easter Sunday, Malaca\u00f1ang urged Filipinos to \u201clove one another,\u201d especially in these trying times that the country is fighting coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Love one another\u2019 was what the Redeemer had taught the Christian world, and this is the most fitting time that we embrace and practice this teaching, that even the non-Christians and the agnostics can relate. For it is only in loving one another can we protect each other from this scourge of a disease,\u201d Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Easter Sunday is deemed the most important day in the Catholic\u2019s liturgical calendar as it commemorates the day Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead.<\/p>\n

Panelo hopes that everyone would enjoy a \u201cmeaningful and faithful\u201d Easter Sunday.<\/p>\n

He said Christ\u2019s resurrection \u201csymbolizes the truism that after going through pain and suffering there will be healing, that after a storm a new dawn beckons, and that after this pandemic of a disease there is a new tomorrow that awaits us and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we struggle to overcome the worst calamity we face as a nation, let us still thank the Almighty for sparing the rest of humanity who will, like the Phoenix, be reborn from ashes and build a new order of love and peace among mankind, coming from what it seems to be a spiritual cleansing that we are all undergoing,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n

Panelo was also confident that like Christ, the country would prevail over Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cChrist has risen! So, will we rise from this tragedy that has befallen us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Philippines has so far recorded 4,428 Covid-19 infections.<\/p>\n

Around 247 Covid-19 patients have died, while some 157 infected individuals have recovered from the disease.<\/p>\n

The entire Luzon was placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until April 30 to curb the spread of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

ECQ was also imposed in several areas in Visayas and Mindanao that have confirmed Covid-19 cases.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
