MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Health Secretary Francisco Duque III on Sunday said 80 percent of the 111 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the country have mild symptoms.<\/p>\n

“Mataas ang<\/em>\u00a0chance to recover\u00a0nung<\/em>\u00a080 percent,\u00a0iyan ang obserbasyon natin sa mga bansang nauna nang nagkaron ng<\/em>\u00a0Covid-19 infection.\u00a0Tapos iyong<\/em>\u00a015 percent\u00a0ay<\/em>\u00a0moderate to severe, at ‘yung<\/em>\u00a03 to 5 percent\u00a0ay critical, so, ang ating tututukan dito ay ‘yung mg<\/em>a (The 80 percent has big chance to recover, that’s what we’ve observed in the countries which were first to have Covid-19 infection. The 15 percent are moderate to severe, and the remaining three to five percent are critical, so, we need to focus on the) severe and critical,” Duque said in a radio interview.<\/p>\n

Duque explained that the recovery period may take two to three weeks for patients with mild symptoms.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, patients with severe to critical symptoms may take three to six weeks to recover, he added.<\/p>\n

“Sa mga naka<\/em>-recover,\u00a0may<\/em>\u00a0self-monitoring\u00a0tayo, sila na ang magmo<\/em>-monitor\u00a0mismo sa mga sarili nila<\/em>\u00a0(We have self-monitoring for those who were able to recover from the infection, they will be the ones to monitor themselves),” Duque said.<\/p>\n

Duque said an individual infected with coronavirus can pass on the disease to an average of three persons.<\/p>\n

“Kung may<\/em>\u00a0111\u00a0tayo ngayon, maaari biglang umabot ng<\/em>\u00a0333 (If we have 111 [cases] now, the number may jump to 333),” he added.<\/p>\n

Duque also confirmed that everyone in Metro Manila are considered persons under monitoring since Code Red Sublevel 2 is raised over the area.<\/p>\n

“Tinitingnan bawat tao dahil siyempre may<\/em>\u00a0community transmission\u00a0tayo ngayon<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He advised individuals with mild sickness to do home quarantine since hospitals cannot handle all cases.<\/p>\n

\u201cKaya mayroon na lamang<\/em>\u00a0monitoring\u00a0at pakikipag-ugnayan sa ating<\/em>\u00a0local government units\u00a0at<\/em>\u00a0city health offices\u00a0para magabayan sila kung lumala ang kanilang karamdaman<\/em>\u00a0(So, we just have monitoring and coordination with local government units at city health offices to avoid worsening of their symptoms),” he said.<\/p>\n

He reminded the public to maintain proper hand hygiene, cough etiquette and social distancing, and to be prudent in the use of facial or surgical masks to contain coronavirus.<\/p>\n

“Unang-una kailangan unawain natin na mayroon tayong<\/em>\u00a0global shortage\u00a0sa<\/em>\u00a0supply chain\u00a0ng mga<\/em>\u00a0masks,\u00a0pagbigyan natin ang mga<\/em>\u00a0health care workers\u00a0natin<\/em>\u00a0(Firstly, we need to understand that there is a global shortage in the supply of chain masks, let’s give way for our health workers),” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
