Dalan)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday bared that there is \u201cverified\u201d information on a supposed ouster plot against him, claiming that Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco was behind such move.<\/p>\n<p>In an ambush interview, Cayetano said Velasco has already been offering chairmanships and funding allocations for congressmen once the latter takes over the top post in the chamber.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNormal\u00a0<em>naman kapag nahuhuli, nagde<\/em>-deny. But unless 20 congressmen are lying to me, that<em>\u00a0pinapangakuan ng<\/em>\u00a0chairmanship\u00a0<em>at sinasabi na<\/em>\u00a0\u2018next year is my budget,<em>\u00a0ako na magdidikta kung kanino ibibigay<\/em>, etc.\u2019 And I don&#8217;t think\u00a0<em>naman mang-<\/em>iintriga\u00a0<em>ang<\/em>\u00a020 congressmen (It is normal to deny it when you get caught. But unless 20 congressmen are lying to me that they were promised chairmanships and told that \u2018next year is my budget, I would dictate to whom it goes\u2019 etc. And I don\u2019t think these 20 congressmen would really spark intrigue),\u201d Cayetano said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Nangangako ng pondo at<\/em>\u00a0chairmanships\u00a0<em>at &#8216;yung iba, s&#8217;ya mismo kausap.<\/em>\u00a0But as I&#8217;ve said,<em>\u00a0kapag nahuli, ano pa ba ang sasabihin?<\/em>\u00a0([Velasco] has been promising funds and chairmanships, and others have directly talked to him. But as I\u2019ve said, if he gets caught, what else would he say?),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Cayetano maintained that he will honor the term-sharing agreement between him and Velasco that President Rodrigo Duterte had brokered in July last year.<\/p>\n<p>Under the term-sharing arrangement, Cayetano would lead the House for 15 months up to October this year while Velasco would serve the remaining 21 months of the Speaker\u2019s three-year term of office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always said\u00a0<em>pagdating sa<\/em>\u00a0leadership issue,<em>\u00a0susunod tayo sa Pangulo<\/em>\u00a0(when it comes to the leadership issue, we would follow the President). So he has nothing to worry about,\u201d Cayetano said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, Velasco dismissed as \u201cbaseless\u201d and \u201csly innuendos being peddled by certain camps with vested interests\u201d the supposed coup plan to change the speakership at the House.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo my\u00a0<em>kababayans,<\/em>\u00a0these reports are far from the truth. The reports were meant to create deep division within the House of Representatives and its members, destroy camaraderie, distract lawmakers from fulfilling their mandate, and more importantly, derail the key legislative agenda of the Duterte Administration,\u201d Velasco said.<\/p>\n<p>Velasco said he continues to honor the 15-21 term-sharing agreement, adding that he never had any intention of \u201creneging\u201d on this agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo my colleagues in Congress, let\u2019s continue to do our mandate to serve our constituency and provide services to people who elected us into office.
