MANILA — Transport officials said on Monday that the government is suing the Metro Rail Transit Corp. (MRTC) on grounds of breach of obligation.<\/p>\n

The government is also asking for a P53-billion budget to take over the MRT 3 and improve the services it will provide to train commuters.<\/p>\n

But, until the new coaches are scheduled in 2016, commuters will still have to endure the current “30 to 40 minutes” queue before the next boarding.<\/p>\n

President Aquino, on earlier reports, also has expressed apologies to commuters who had to endure waiting for more than an hour for the next train.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, sorry for now to our countrymen because we have to deal with the 40 minutes\u2019 waiting time,\u201d Aquino said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, during the government hearing, Sen. Francis Escudero said the government should have sued the corporation a long time ago for its failure to perform its responsibilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t you have any plans in your pipeline to sue MRTC? Why do you allow them to [bombard] the government with litigations left and right by way of TROs when clearly, they did not perform on their contract? They are in default.
