(PNA photo by Joey Razon)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; Motorcycle taxis may soon be declared illegal following the recommendation of the Department of Transportation&#8217;s Technical Working Group on motorcycle taxis (TWG) to terminate its pilot study on motorcycles as public transportation due to legal impediments.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview before a Senate hearing on the regulation and legalization of motorcycle taxis on Monday, TWG chair Antonio Gardiola Jr., said the TWG would recommend the termination of the study due to a \u201clegal rigmarole\u201d that failed the gathering data for the study.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot gather data because of actions being undertaken of one of the players so it\u2019s better to terminate it,\u201d Gardiola said.<\/p>\n<p>He said once the study has been terminated, motorcycles taxis would be deemed illegal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo maybe a week from now, we will start enforcement already,\u201d Gardiola said.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, a Mandaluyong court junked the petition by motorcycle taxi company Angkas for another temporary restraining order (TRO) against the TWG\u2019s revised guidelines for motorcycle taxis.<\/p>\n<p>This came after Angkas filed a separate petition before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court for a TRO against the new rider cap, apprehension of \u201cexcess riders,\u201d and exclusion of its two competitors from the program.<\/p>\n<p>Angkas also filed an earlier petition for a 72-hour TRO against the revised guidelines which it obtained on January 6.<\/p>\n<p>The revised guidelines issued in December last year limited the maximum number of riders in Metro Manila to 30,000 and in Metro Cebu to 9,000 &#8212; divided equally between the three approved companies Angkas, JoyRide, and Move It.<\/p>\n<p>Angkas claimed the new rider cap would result in the loss of jobs for 17,000 of its riders &#8212; with Angkas claiming to have a total of 27,000 riders &#8212; resulting in a conflict between the company and the TWG.<em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; MANILA\u00a0&#8212; Motorcycle taxis may soon be declared illegal following the recommendation of the Department of Transportation&#8217;s Technical Working Group &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":242586,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1482,1145,16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-242673","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking","category-headline","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-raymond-carl-dela-cruz","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/242673","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=242673"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/242673\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":242674,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/242673\/revisions\/242674"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/242586"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=242673"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=242673"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=242673"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
