(PNA photo by Gil Calinga)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday collected a total of 68 truckloads of garbage from this year\u2019s Traslacion, a third less than last year\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n<p>In a message to reporters, MMDA spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago said the garbage, which weighed 330 tons, was collected from the start of the\u00a0<em>pahalik<\/em>\u00a0at the Quirino Grandstand on Monday until the procession of the Black Nazarene on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>This, compared to 100 truckloads of trash collected during last year&#8217;s Traslacion for the same period.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Yun mula sa<\/em>\u00a0MMDA\u00a0<em>at<\/em>\u00a0(That&#8217;s from the MMDA and) DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) street sweepers, same duration\u2014from Pahalik to Traslacion Procession,\u201d Pialago said of last year\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from having the least amount of garbage collected, this year\u2019s Traslacion was also the fastest, taking 16 hours and 30 minutes to complete compared to the average 21 hours in the previous years\u2014breaking the record of 18 hours in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>With the procession ending at around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Pialago said all roads and bridges in its route were cleared and passable at the same time as the procession\u2019s end at the Quiapo Church.<\/p>\n<p>However, the changes in the yearly religious event were not without its drawbacks as some devotees complained of being unable to reach the andas (carriage) that carried the statue of the Black Nazarene, due to stricter security by both the police and military personnel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0\u2013 The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday collected a total of 68 truckloads of garbage from this year\u2019s &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":241860,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-241859","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-raymond-carl-dela-cruz","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/241859","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=241859"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/241859\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":241862,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/241859\/revisions\/241862"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/241860"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=241859"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=241859"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=241859"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
