MANILA — President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday reiterated his desire to talk with Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria \u201cJoma\u201d Sison, but this time, without the presence of any panel.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to have a talk.\u00a0Pero ang gusto ko, sabi ko kay<\/em>\u00a0Sison (But I want, I told Sison), \u2018You come home and we will talk alone.\u2019\u00a0Kaming dalawa lang. Ayaw ko ng<\/em>\u00a0panel (Just the two of us. I don\u2019t want a panel),\u201d Duterte said in a speech in North Cotabato.<\/p>\n

Duterte was referring to the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) peace panel.<\/p>\n

\u201cTanungin ko siya dito. Ano ba talaga gusto mong p***** i**<\/em>\u00a0(I\u2019m going to ask him about this. What do you really want)?\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to destroy a country? Can you really think you can destroy the Philippines?\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Duterte criticized the communist rebels anew for having no ideologies, tagging them as \u201cplain bandits.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey collect from\u00a0itong mga<\/em>\u00a0(these) farm enterprises,\u00a0sunugin \u2018yung mga<\/em>\u00a0trucks\u00a0kung<\/em>\u00a0(they burn trucks)\u2026 It — it does not really make any sense,\u201d Duterte said, referring to revolutionary taxes.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the communist rebels have been losing supporters because many have already surrendered.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarami ang nagsu-<\/em>surrender.\u00a0Marami talaga ang bumababa<\/em>\u00a0(There are many who have surrendered. There are many going down from the mountains),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

The Chief Executive, meanwhile, reiterated his promise to give surrenderers shelter, livelihood, education if they returned to the folds of the law.<\/p>\n

Last week, Duterte demanded an explanation from the communist movement on violations committed despite declaring a 15-day unilateral ceasefire.<\/p>\n

The holiday truce between the government forces and the communist guerrillas will be in place from December 23 until January 7, 2020.<\/p>\n

The ceasefire was implemented after Duterte and Sison separately declared their nationwide truce before the planned resumption of formal peace negotiations.<\/p>\n

However, there have been reported attacks by suspected NPA members against soldiers and policemen in Labo, Camarines Norte; Tubungan, Iloilo; and Quezon province on the first day of the implementation of the temporary ceasefire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
