(<a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/w\/index.php?curid=10610322\">Photo By Skylab iss &#8211; Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; The Senate on Monday passed on final reading a bill seeking to grant night shift differential to government employees whose work requires them to perform their duties beyond regular working hours.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Bill 643 was approved with 20 affirmative votes, no negative vote and no abstention.<\/p>\n<p>Under the proposed measure, government employees, including those in government-owned or controlled corporations (GOCCs), whether they are permanent, contractual, temporary, or casual, shall be paid night shift differential at a rate not exceeding 20 percent of the hourly basic rate of the employee for each hour of work performed between 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>At present this wage-related benefit is given only to private employees as mandated by the Labor Code.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Ramon \u201cBong\u201d Revilla Jr., the bill\u2019s main author, welcomed the approval of the proposed measure, saying public sector employees also deserve the benefit given to their private counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis proposed measure seeks to recognize government employees&#8217; unselfish service,\u201d the chairman of the Senate Committee on Civil Service, Government Reorganization, and Professional Regulation said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe granting of night differential to government employees will also go a long way in helping to ensure their safety, security, and productivity, since working at night takes a toll on any person&#8217;s health, property, and life,&#8221; Revilla said.<\/p>\n<p>Under SB 643, funding for the night differential of workers coming from the national government will be charged against the annual General Appropriations Act (GAA).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, funding for the night differential of local government workers shall come from the respective funds of the local government unit.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, GOCCs and their subsidiaries shall get their funding from their respective corporate funds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; The Senate on Monday passed on final reading a bill seeking to grant night shift differential to government employees &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":237990,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-239614","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-jose-cielito-reganit","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239614","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=239614"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239614\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":239615,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239614\/revisions\/239615"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/237990"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=239614"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=239614"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=239614"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
