(Pixabay photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; The slight uptick in consumer prices in November should not be a cause for concern, considering that the latest inflation still settled within the forecast of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Malaca\u00f1ang said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Headline inflation slightly inched up to 1.3 percent in November after a five-month slowdown in price increases in basic commodities.<\/p>\n<p>The latest inflation rate picked up from the 42-month low of 0.7 percent in October but was still within BSP\u2019s forecast of 2 percent to 4 percent for the month and lower than the 6 percent registered in November 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe increase in inflation rate in November 2019 to 1.3 percent from October 2019\u2019s 0.8 percent should not be a cause for alarm,\u201d Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoaring inflation, which peaked at 6.7 percent last year, has been slain through the efforts of responsible agencies, and is now a thing of the past,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo acknowledged that the faster headline inflation in November was driven by highest annual increase registered in alcoholic beverages and tobacco index (17.6 percent).<\/p>\n<p>PSA reported that higher annual increases in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (1.2 percent); furnishing, household equipment and routine maintenance of the house (2.8 percent); health (3.1 percent); and communication (0.3 percent) also contributed to the higher inflation in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur economists attribute the same to excise taxes,\u201d Panelo noted.<\/p>\n<p>Panelo, however, said for the first 11 months of this year, inflation rate averaged at 2.5 percent, which the Trade department has said remains a \u201cvery tamed inflation rate\u201d and \u201cmuch lower than the full-year range of 2 to 4 percent we are expecting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Palace official also echoed the Finance department\u2019s stance that the country&#8217;s stable macroeconomic fundamentals and streamlined food supply would enable the economy to \u201cattain rapid growth and sustain low inflation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that through appropriate fiscal and monetary policies, the country will be able to &#8220;ride safely through the ongoing trade war and avoid the shocks that slowed down many emerging economies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Panelo assured the public that the country\u2019s economic managers would work harder to keep the inflation low.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Administration will maintain fiscal and monetary policies implemented by our economic managers to boost and further improve country&#8217;s economy, while keeping inflation low for our local consumers, amidst emerging global threats,\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; The slight uptick in consumer prices in November should not be a cause for concern, considering that the latest &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":179791,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[19,16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-239285","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-ruth-abbey-gita-carlos","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239285","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=239285"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239285\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":239286,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239285\/revisions\/239286"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/179791"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=239285"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=239285"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=239285"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
