(File <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ltfrb.central.office\/photos\/pcb.2445739595667954\/2445739372334643\/?type=3&amp;theater\">Photo:<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ltfrb.central.office\">Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board &#8211; LTFRB\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) clarified there would be no fare hike for all public utility jeepneys (PUJ).<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued Tuesday evening, the LTFRB belied reports of a fare hike and said the memorandum circular 2019-061 it issued was to merely standardize fare rates computations for modern public utility vehicles such as e-jeepneys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe (MC) 2019-061 on Fare Rates for Modern PUJ Services and Electric PUJ Services aims to establish a nationwide fare guideline baseline for Modern PUJs and E-Jeepneys,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>The LTFRB said the circular does not apply to regular PUJs.<\/p>\n<p>Under MC 2019-061, non-airconditioned electric and modern PUJs shall charge a fare rate 20 percent higher than regular PUJs for the first four kilometers with no rate difference in every succeeding kilometer.<\/p>\n<p>For air-conditioned units, the fare rate is 20 percent higher than regular PUJ service for the first four kilometers and 20 percent higher for every succeeding kilometer.<\/p>\n<p>The memorandum took effect on Wednesday (December 4).<\/p>\n<p>The new fare rates, according to the memorandum, is justified through the \u201cunquantifiable\u201d benefits of modern PUJs to the environment aside from the increased cost of maintenance of such units.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe public has a value of knowing that by acting more environmentally correct, the more they contribute to future generation\u2019s wellbeing,\u201d the circular read.<\/p>\n<p>On November 20, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) canceled the automatic phaseout of old jeepneys by June 30, 2020, and instead required a yearly roadworthiness test for such units, consolidation of operators into cooperatives or corporations, among other requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The DOTr added that once sufficient modern PUVs ply the routes of traditional PUJs, the provisional authority of these non-modern PUJs would be canceled automatically.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) clarified there would be no fare hike for all public utility &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":239176,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[16,95],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-239175","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-news-ph","mauthors-raymond-carl-dela-cruz","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239175","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=239175"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239175\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":239177,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/239175\/revisions\/239177"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/239176"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=239175"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=239175"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=239175"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
