REY BANIQUET\/PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday afternoon welcomed Brunei\u2019s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at Malaca\u00f1ang Palace in Manila, just hours before the formal opening of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.<\/p>\n<p>Bolkiah arrived in Manila on Saturday morning for a two-day official visit.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte and Bolkiah held a bilateral meeting to discuss the Philippines\u2019 hosting of the biennial regional sports meet.<\/p>\n<p>Palace has yet to release a statement on the two leaders\u2019 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippines, for the fourth time, hosted the SEA Games.<\/p>\n<p>Around 8,750 athletes from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Timor Leste, Singapore, and Vietnam will compete in 530 events in 56 sports from November 30 to December 11.<\/p>\n<p>Bolkiah\u2019s children, Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Azemah, are part of the Sultanate\u2019s polo team that clinched an early victory in the sporting event.<\/p>\n<p>The Brunei team won over the Philippines\u2019 polo bets on November 24 at the I\u00f1igo Zobel Polo Facility.<\/p>\n<p>The sultan\u2019s nephew, Faiq Jefri Bolkiah, is Brunei\u2019s football team captain.
