(File <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/davaocitygov\/photos\/a.677286965656162\/1723154744402707\/?type=3&amp;amp;theater\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/davaocitygov\/\">City Government of Davao\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara \u201cInday\u201d Duterte-Carpio, will not seek the highest public office in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The President made the remarks as he reiterated that he would not allow his daughter to follow in his footsteps for fear that she would only be bombarded with criticisms, should she become his successor in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told her, \u2018No, do not run.\u2019 She will not run\u00a0<em>kasi sabi ko maawa ako sa &#8216;yo<\/em>\u00a0(because I\u2019d just pity her).\u00a0<em>Ano nang gawin mo? Karaming isipin nitong mga u***, akala kasi nila<\/em>\u00a0bright\u00a0<em>sila<\/em>\u00a0(What will you do? These fools who think they are bright would have a lot to say) and they (will) come up with all sorts of scenarios,\u201d he said in a one-on-one interview with CNN Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Ako ayaw ko. Ibang tao na lang, kasi bababuyin niyo lang anak ko<\/em>\u00a0(I don\u2019t like that. Just look for another person because they would just assail my daughter),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte has repeatedly discouraged Sara from seeking the presidency, warning her that taking on the challenge as the highest official of the land might only \u201cdestroy\u201d her.<\/p>\n<p>Sara earlier floated the possibility that she might run for president in 2022 and promised to decide by January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The President has less than three years in office.<\/p>\n<p>He said he and his party mates from the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino &#8211; Lakas ng Bayan have yet to talk about their possible candidate for the 2022 presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>He added that he has no plan to groom anyone to be his successor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy party mates do not talk to me about politics.\u00a0<em>Alam nila yun kasi<\/em>\u00a0(They know that) I get peeved,\u201d Duterte said. \u201c\u2018<em>Yung sinasabi nilang \u2018yung anak kong si Inday, naaawa ako. Anak ko eh. Sabi ko, mamili tayo ng iba kung gusto ninyo<\/em>\u00a0if you want me there in the game (They want my daughter, Inday, to run but I pity her because she\u2019s my daughter. I said look for someone else if you want me there in the game).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the President said he has no advice for the country\u2019s next president, noting that he would let his successor act on his own in addressing the pressing issues in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo it on his own. Let him find the qualities that the people are looking for,\u201d Duterte said. \u201c<em>Wala akong<\/em>\u00a0(I don\u2019t have any) suggestion. This country will continue without me starting it or stopping it.\u00a0<em>Hindi naman hihinto ang mundo para sa akin<\/em>\u00a0(The world will not stop for me).
