MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday admitted that he is not satisfied with Vice President Maria Leonor \u201cLeni\u201d Robredo\u2019s performance as co-chairperson of Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).<\/div>\n

\u201cInsofar as what she (Robredo) is doing now, that is not very clear to me.\u00a0Nakukulangan ako sa<\/em>\u00a0ability\u00a0niya<\/em>\u00a0(I am not satisfied with her ability),\u201d the President said in a media interview in Davao City.<\/p>\n

\u201cAko, hindi pa siya nagtatrabaho talaga nang husto<\/em>\u00a0(For me, she has yet to give her best as she is really not doing her job well). I have yet to see the Vice President working as an ICAD co-chair,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

On October 31, Robredo was appointed to lead the ICAD, along with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Aaron Aquino, until June 30, 2022, after earning the President\u2019s ire when she claimed that the drug war is \u201cabsolutely not working.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duterte stressed Robredo should know the \u201cdescription of her work\u201d as ICAD co-chair.<\/p>\n

He added that Robredo needs to discuss with Aquino the \u201csharing\u201d of their powers as heads of the anti-drug body.<\/p><\/div>\n

No order for her to resign<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Robredo said she would be willing to give up as anti-drug czar should the President ask her to vacate the post.<\/p>\n

The President, however, clarified that he is not ordering Robredo to quit as ICAD co-chair.<\/p>\n

\u201cHindi ako — ayaw ko sa kanya. Sabi ko lang na<\/em>\u00a0I cannot trust her\u00a0kasi hindi kami magka-[alyado]. Kung sabihin mo sa trabaho lang, trabaho ka lang diyan<\/em>\u00a0(It\u2019s not that I don\u2019t like her. I just said I don\u2019t trust her. If you said it\u2019s just work, then just do your work),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The President maintained that he could not appoint Robredo as a member of his Cabinet, as he opted to discuss confidential drug war records with people who have the \u201csame persuasion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duterte apologetic for previous rants vs. Robredo<\/em><\/p>\n

Duterte\u2019s refusal to let Robredo hold a Cabinet rank stemmed from the Vice President\u2019s earlier announcement that she would be meeting officials of the United States (US) and the United Nations (UN) to discuss the Philippines\u2019 handling of drug problem.<\/p>\n

Robredo clarified earlier that she had only met with the officers of the US Embassy in Manila and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime based in the Philippines.<\/p>\n

The President apologized for believing in \u201cfalse news\u201d about Robredo\u2019s meeting with UN officials who are critical of his drug war.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo if she says that\u2019s false news, I believe her. And I am sorry because I said you only realize that it is false news when the news comes out. And you hear it and you talk about it, you react to it, that is the problem,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

‘Not good’ for Robredo<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite the apology, the President said it would be better if Robredo has limited access to all information related to the government\u2019s campaign against illegal drugs despite her role as ICAD co-chair.<\/p>\n

Duterte made the remark, as he maintained his stance not to share with Robredo the confidential records about his administration\u2019s anti-narcotics.<\/p>\n

\u201cPero kung sabihin mo na<\/em>\u00a0(But if you\u2019d say that) she will ask [for] the paper and examine all of these things, so there is what you would call the need to know,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs there a need for you, Leni, to know everything? I don\u2019t think it\u2019s good,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The President said he can \u201cnever\u201d trust Robredo, despite the latter\u2019s acceptance of the position as ICAD co-chair.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere can never be a trust that can be nurtured between the two of us for the simple reason that Leni Robredo is with the opposition,\u00a0ako nandito ako sa kabila<\/em>\u00a0(while I belong to the ruling party),\u201d Duterte said.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
