(File <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/alanpetercayetano\/photos\/a.521970207895765\/2498477513578348\/?type=3&amp;theater\">Photo:<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/alanpetercayetano\/\">Alan Peter Cayetano\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday slammed opposition leaders for their &#8220;hypocrisy&#8221; and \u201ccrab mentality\u201d in criticizing the government\u2019s expenditures to host the 30th Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, former president Benigno Aquino III and Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said the PHP 50-million cauldron that will be used for the opening of the SEA Games was an &#8220;unnecessary extravagance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a press conference during the inspection of the SEA Games sports facilities at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac, Cayetano pointed out that when he was Senate Majority Leader, the Aquino administration asked for a PHP10-billion budget to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Manila in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Ang sinasabi ko lang yung<\/em>\u00a0hypocrisy\u00a0<em>na nung<\/em>\u00a0PHP10 billion<em>\u00a0ang hiningi nila sa Kongreso, para sa<\/em>\u00a0APEC,\u00a0<em>para sa bayan ito, representasyon ito, karangalan ito<\/em>\u00a0(What I am saying is the hypocrisy that when they asked Congress for PHP10 billion for the APEC, it was for the country, for representation, for honor). We have to serve good food\u00a0<em>para maganda representasyon<\/em> (for good representation),&#8221; Cayetano said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8216;<em>Yun nakita nila at<\/em>\u00a0justified<em>\u00a0nila pero yung<\/em>\u00a0PHP50-million<em>\u00a0na<\/em>\u00a0priceless work of art<em>\u00a0na<\/em>\u00a0forever\u00a0<em>pagmamay-ari ng gobyerno, sasabihin nila sana<\/em>\u00a050 classrooms<em>\u00a0na lang<\/em>\u00a0(They recognized and justified that, but for the PHP50-million priceless work of art that will be forever owned by the government, they are saying we should have 50 classrooms instead),&#8221; the Speaker and chair of the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) said.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of criticizing, Cayetano said it would have been better if Aquino was proud that his home province of Tarlac was the main venue of the international event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was expecting\u00a0<em>na sasabihin niya na may<\/em>\u00a0issues,\u00a0<em>pag-usapan natin<\/em>\u00a0later,\u00a0<em>pero<\/em>\u00a0proud\u00a0<em>kaming mga Kapampangan na dito itinayo sa<\/em>\u00a0Tarlac (that he will say that there are issues, let\u2019s talk about it later, but we Pampangue\u00f1os are proud that the facilities were built in Tarlac),\u201d Cayetano said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>E hindi eh, &#8216;yung<\/em>\u00a0crab mentality\u00a0<em>pa rin. Akala nila<\/em>\u00a0SEA Games, seafood,\u00a0<em>kaya panay<\/em>\u00a0crab mentality,<em>\u00a0talangka ang inaabot natin<\/em>\u00a0(But no, it\u2019s still the crab mentality. They thought the SEA games is seafood, that\u2019s why it\u2019s always crab mentality, we only get crabs),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The House leader also twitted Drilon for bringing up the classroom issue since it was during Aquino\u2019s time that the shortage worsened.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think Sen. Drilon forgot\u00a0<em>na<\/em>\u00a0(that) it&#8217;s their administration\u00a0<em>na nagpilit ng<\/em>\u00a0K-12 kaya\u00a0<em>nagkulang na naman ng<\/em>\u00a0classroom (that insisted on implementing the K-12 program which again led to classroom shortages),&#8221; Cayetano said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know because there are only two senators who objected, myself and Senator (Antonio) Trillanes. So don&#8217;t talk to me about classrooms because you created the classroom shortage. Dapat we&#8217;re on track\u00a0<em>na maging<\/em>\u00a045-40 per classroom\u00a0<em>kung hindi muna natin pinilit &#8216;yung<\/em>\u00a0(We would have been on track for 40-45 students per classroom if we had not insisted on the) K-12.
