MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— President Rodrigo Duterte admitted that he is having difficulty in selecting an \u201cappropriate guy\u201d who will take over as new Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of a —\u00a0hindi naman<\/em>\u00a0(not really) messy, but it\u2019s very hard to — at this time to choose a candidate\u00a0na<\/em>\u00a0who would really\u2026 The appropriate guy.\u00a0Mahirap eh<\/em>\u00a0(It\u2019s difficult),\u201d Duterte said in a media interview in Malaca\u00f1ang.<\/p>\n

Duterte said he wanted his next PNP chief to possess honesty but noted that the fact of the matter is that it was a rare trait.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Duterte said he would leave it to the Office of the Ombudsman to decide on the case of resigned PNP chief Oscar Albayalde.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet the Ombudsman.\u00a0Ang<\/em>\u00a0administrative is\u00a0wala na kasi mag-<\/em>retire\u00a0na siya<\/em>\u00a0if there’s a criminal liability,\u00a0kung meron<\/em>\u00a0(There\u2019s no need for administrative liability because he\u2019s retiring, just criminal liability if there is),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe’s retiring. The heaviest penalty there is you are separated from service,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Last week, the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) amended its original complaint to include Albayalde who was Pampanga Provincial Police Director when the drug raid involving \u2018ninja cops\u2019 took place in 2013.<\/p>\n

Albayalde allegedly attempted to influence the dismissal order against his 13 former subordinates accused of recycling illegal drugs.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 14, Albayalde relinquished and went on non-duty status (NDS) before his mandatory retirement on Nov. 8 when he turns 56.<\/p>\n

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo earlier said Albayalde resigned because he is tired of hearing “false and unfair” accusations about his involvement in illegal drugs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
