(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/VPLeniRobredoPH\/photos\/a.2215942618523394\/2215943728523283\/?type=3&amp;amp;theater\">File photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/VPLeniRobredoPH\/\">VP Leni Robredo\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said he is willing to give Vice President Leni Robredo six months to take over his administration\u2019s aggressive crackdown on illegal drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said he has asked Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to send Robredo a letter which indicates that he is willing to \u201csurrender\u201d his powers to let Robredo take charge of the anti-illegal drugs campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sending a letter to her through Secretary Medialdea. I will surrender my powers to enforce the law.<em>\u00a0Ibigay ko sa<\/em>\u00a0Vice President (I will give it to the Vice President),\u201d Duterte said in a speech during the oath-taking ceremony of newly-appointed government officials.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIbigay ko sa kanya mga<\/em>\u00a0six months.\u00a0<em>Siya ang magdala. Tingnan natin kung ano ang mangyari. Hindi ako makialam. Sige, gusto mo? Mas<\/em>\u00a0bright\u00a0<em>ka? Sige. Ikaw. Subukan mo<\/em>\u00a0(I\u2019ll give it to her for six months. She takes charge. Let\u2019s see what happens. I won\u2019t interfere. You want it? You\u2019re brighter than me? You, try it for yourself),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>However, in a chance interview after his speech, Duterte clarified that he meant that he could commission Robredo as drug czar and let her take over \u201call anti-drug activities\u201d of government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not surrender anything. I said if she wants, I can commission her to be the drug czar,\u201d Duterte told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said he decided to let Robredo take over following her recent statement in a Reuters interview about the \u201cfailed drug war\u201d which \u201ctargeted the poor rather than big drug networks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNgayon mas marunong ka man sa akin<\/em>\u00a0(Now, if you know how to do it better than me) I\u2019ll hand in to you full powers sa (on) drugs. I\u2019ll give you six months.\u00a0<em>Tingnan natin kung kaya mo<\/em>\u00a0(Let\u2019s see if you can do it),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>The President said he wanted to give Robredo a \u201cclean slate\u201d so that she could prove that she could do a better job in cracking down on the illegal drug trade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSinabi ko sa kanya (I told her that) I\u2019m ready to give you, to concede to you powers that would cover all anti-drug activities by the government,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte said even if Robredo would decline his offer, he would not ask her to stop criticizing his handling of the anti-drug campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis a democracy.
