MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Malaca\u00f1ang on Thursday said President Rodrigo Duterte will still await the results of the investigation before deciding on the fate of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde, amid new revelations against the top cop on his alleged involvement in the recycling of illegal drugs in 2013.<\/p>\n

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo reiterated that the President will decide based on Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo A\u00f1o\u2019s recommendations after the probe.<\/p>\n

\u201cHayaan mo yung Senado magimbestiga, magkaroon sila ng<\/em>\u00a0findings,\u00a0hayaan mo si<\/em>\u00a0DILG Sec\u00a0magimbestiga<\/em>\u00a0(Allow the Senate to investigate, get findings, allow the DILG Secretary to investigate) and the President will act on them,\u201d Panelo said in a Palace briefing.<\/p>\n

Panelo said he does not know whether the President would be more inclined to dismiss Albayalde following this new revelation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Office of the President says through the President himself, I will wait for the findings and recommendations of DILG\u201d Panelo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnless there is a statement to the contrary, the presumption is it remains the same,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

During a Senate hearing on Wednesday, former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) deputy director, Col. Rudy Lacadin claimed Albayalde tried to intervene in the controversial 2013 drug operation in Pampanga when the latter was provincial police chief.<\/p>\n

Lacadin said Albayalde called him up when he was asked to investigate the 2013 drug operation.<\/p>\n

\u201cSabi niya<\/em>\u00a0(Albayalde said), I don\u2019t know if jokingly, but he said, \u2018Actually Sir\u00a0kaunti lang naman ang napunta sa akin diyan<\/em>\u00a0(only a few of that went to me)\u2019,\u201d Lacadin quoted Albayalde as saying.<\/p>\n

Albayalde denied Lacadin\u2019s revelation, saying other generals including former CIDG chief and now Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong were ganging him up.<\/p>\n

Panelo has repeatedly assured there would be \u201cno sacred cows\u201d in the Duterte administration.<\/p>\n

Duterte earlier said dismissing a top official should be done \u201cfor a good reason\u201d and with \u201cenough proof.\u201d<\/p>\n
