(Shutterstock Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>North\u00a0Korea\u00a0on Monday denounced a scheduled U.N. Security Council discussion of its latest test of an underwater-launched ballistic missile, calling it \u201cdangerous\u201d and saying it will increase \u201cour desire to defend our sovereignty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The council scheduled closed consultations Tuesday on recent\u00a0North\u00a0Korean tests at the request of the United Kingdom, France and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>North\u00a0Korea&#8217;s U.N. Ambassador Kim Song told several reporters Monday the United States is \u201cbehind the impure moves\u201d of the three countries, saying the meeting would not take place without the consent of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Weekend discussions between senior U.S. and\u00a0North\u00a0Korean officials in Stockholm broke down amid acrimony. The talks were the first since the second summit between President Donald Trump and\u00a0North\u00a0Korean leader Kim Jong Un collapsed in Vietnam in February due to squabbling over how much sanctions relief should be given to the\u00a0North\u00a0in return for dismantling its main nuclear complex.<\/p>\n<p>Pyongyang&#8217;s chief nuclear negotiator Kim Myong Gil told reporters at Beijing&#8217;s airport on his way home Monday that \u201cwhether or not there are further talks will depend on the U.S.\u201d He described talks with his U.S. counterpart, Stephen Biegun, on Saturday as \u201cvery bad and sickening,\u201d and stressed that the U.S .had \u201cnot presented any new initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Kim, the U.N. envoy, stressed the timing of the Security Council meeting, saying the three European countries should seriously consider this issue, which he called \u201cvery important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said no matter what the United Kingdom, France and Germany pursue, \u201cwe will never tolerate this dangerous attempt\u201d and will never sit idly by against those taking issue with what he repeatedly called \u201cour defensive measures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He called the Oct. 3 test of a new-type SLBM Pukguksong-3 in the waters off Wonsan Bay one of the country&#8217;s \u201cself-defensive measures,\u201d saying that \u201cit has no effect on security of neighbouring countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States and its followers should bear in mind that if they raise the issue of our self-defensive measures at the U.N. Security Council, it will further boost our desire to defend our sovereignty,\u201d Kim said. \u201cSo we really sharply watch every move of the United States and the United Nations Security Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Calling the planned council meeting \u201cdangerous to our sovereignty,\u201d he said, \u201cPlease carefully watch what we do in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kim said\u00a0North\u00a0Korea\u00a0doesn&#8217;t recognize any Security Council meetings that address \u201cour self-defensive measures\u201d so he won&#8217;t be there on Tuesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>North\u00a0Korea\u00a0on Monday denounced a scheduled U.N.
