MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday said it is ready for the holding of Saturday’s plebiscite to convert the municipality of Santo Tomas in the province of Batangas into a component city.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything is well in hand. Ready\u00a0na \u2018yung mga<\/em>\u00a0materials.\u00a0\u2018yung mga balota, nakahanda na<\/em>\u00a0(The materials are ready. The ballots are ready). So we expect\u00a0na hindi tayo magkaka-problema sa Sabado. Tuloy yung ating plebisito sa Sabado<\/em>\u00a0(that we will not have any problems on Saturday. Our plebiscite will push through on Saturday),” said Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez in an interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re confident that the plebiscite will go off without a hitch, all the required documents is in place, the supplies are in place the teachers had been trained and so we’re just waiting for the date itself to happen,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Jimenez said they expect the result of the plebiscite to be known within a day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect the results, at least an indication of the results within 24 hours\u00a0pero yung<\/em>\u00a0(but the) finalization, siyempre<\/em>\u00a0(of course), it depends on the (arrival of the results) from other places. But it’s just one town so we don\u2019t expect\u00a0na matatagalan siya<\/em>\u00a0(it to take long),\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said they also expect a high voter turnout for the electoral procedure.<\/p>\n

\u201cNormally, if it is a plebiscite from municipality to city usually,\u00a0mataas ang\u00a0<\/em>turn out\u00a0niyan<\/em>\u00a0(the turn out is higher). Especially in this case, we expect\u00a0na mataas talaga ang<\/em>\u00a0turn out\u00a0kasi<\/em>\u00a0more than a week\u00a0na sinusuyod namin ‘yung lugar kasi nagpupunta kami sa sulok sulok ng<\/em>\u00a0(that there will be a high turn out because we are roaming around the place and even the outskirts of) Sto. Tomas. Hindi naman siguro aabot ng 100 (percent) pero (It will not reach 100 percent but) definitely higher than average,\u201d Jimenez added.<\/p>\n

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11086 signed into law by President Rodrigo Dutert in October last year, the poll body is mandated to set the date and supervise the conduct of the plebiscite converting the present municipality of Sto. Tomas in the province of Batangas into a component city.<\/p>\n

On September 7, voters will write the word \u201cYes\u201d or \u201cOo\u201d on the official ballot if they vote for the approval of the ratification of Republic Act No. 11086.<\/p>\n

For those who are not in favor of the act, they will write the word \u201cNo\u201d or \u201cHindi\u201d.<\/p>\n

All registered voters of the town may cast their votes from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
