{"id":2285,"date":"2014-02-17T01:30:07","date_gmt":"2014-02-17T09:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=2285"},"modified":"2014-02-17T01:30:07","modified_gmt":"2014-02-17T09:30:07","slug":"police-investigating-alberta-homicide-find-remains-at-waste-facility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/02\/17\/police-investigating-alberta-homicide-find-remains-at-waste-facility\/","title":{"rendered":"Police investigating Alberta homicide find remains at waste facility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. &#8211; Mounties in northern Alberta say human remains have been found at a waste management facility they had been searching as part of a homicide investigation.<\/p>\n<p>RCMP say the remains were found Saturday at the Aquatera Waste Management site in Grande Prairie.<\/p>\n<p>Courtney Breanna Johnstone, 26, of Grande Prairie was reported missing on Jan. 30.<\/p>\n<p>While RCMP charged a man with her death last week, officers hadn&#8217;t found her body.<\/p>\n<p>Police say they&#8217;re still working to confirm the identity of the remains and an autopsy is anticipated early this week.<\/p>\n<p>Shane Gregory Babitsch, 21, of Grande Prairie has been charged with first-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p>His next court appearance is March 12 in Grande Prairie.<\/p>\n<p>Police say they are continuing to investigate.<\/p>\n<p>Officers had been searching the waste site since Feb. 11.<\/p>\n<p>Mounties said in a news release last week that the search was &#8220;methodical and arduous,&#8221; noting that they faced challenges such as cold weather, snow and dangers that included industrial and medical waste as well as toxic gasses.<\/p>\n<p>They said their investigation was helped by the fact Johnstone&#8217;s family and friends were quick to report her missing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. &#8211; Mounties in northern Alberta say human remains have been found at a waste management facility they &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2285","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-news-ca","mauthors-the-canadian-press"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2285","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2285"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2285\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2285"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2285"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2285"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
